After the Christmas season winds down, my house always feels empty and blah, much like others experience I’m sure. I picked up a few affordable pieces recently that helped make the transition to the ‘dead’ month a little easier. The punches of green and blue help January to not feel so dreary.
Early in the month, I ‘shopped my house’ and rounded up some of my 3,000 glass bottles I have. I liked the collected look and spiced up the entryway table with them. This area gets a ton of natural light and the bottles just seem to sparkle here!
Next up, these $5.95 striped pillow covers from H&M. What?! I can’t even make my own that cheap. They actually had a lot of pillow covers on their new home site that I liked but I stuck with only ordering four to first check the quality. I may be back for more! This likely isn’t the permanent home for these pillows, but for now, I’m loving the addition of stripes in the living room.
I also had some grapevine wood {looks similar to driftwood} from HomeGoods {$9.99} to our mantle. Not sure this is its permanent home either, but it’s a pretty contrast to the glass bottles for now.
I had purchased this mirrored Threshold frame from Target a few weeks back for our second guest bedroom {and got a great deal with my Cartwheel app – do you use this?!}. However, the quote I purchased for the frame was also on a white background and I felt the white mat clashed with my Swiss Coffee stripes on the wall. So, I used some matte black spray paint on the mat and added the art.
And after the art and mat makeover. New angle – I thought you would prefer to see two of my cute cats and one of my Chenonceau pillows rather than me in my pajamas. I think the black mat just adds so much more character to the room. Love!
The art is from ‘Oh My Deer‘ in the 8x10s size and rang in at $12. The faux gold foil looks pretty legit – and is obviously much more cost effective than the real deal.
The last update is also from the ‘Oh My Deer’ shop. I added this $12 print to our powder bathroom to replace the Lindsay Letters O Holy Night print that was previously there. The black script, along with my black and white striped West Elm hand towel, help to slightly modernize our Tuscan-ish bathroom until we can make some bigger changes. And for the record – I hate photographing this room – the colors always look so off.
The question you may all be asking yourselves now is, “Do you have stripes in every room in your home?” The answer is a resounding “yes.”
Be sure to check back in Monday. I will finally be revealing my office makeover and I hope you all love it as much as I already do!

I feel the same way about this time of year. I welcome the clutter free home after the holiday decorating overload, but then I get antsy and bored. I too have re arranged and bought some new pieces. I love the entryway table with all of the glass on it. Those are gorgeous and the light is great in there

I love all your glassware!!! Where do you get it from? That mirrored frame looks awesome with the black mat too.
I’m in love with your green glass collection! And, you can’t beat the price of the H & M pillow. Love it!
Have a great weekend!

I love walking around the house and seeing where I can change something up to feel like a new space again. I really like the gold sign….
Ummmm…you just rocked my world, Sarah. I did NOT know that H&M had home merchandise…I’m off to shop for some pillow covers! 🙂
love love LOVE! I’m getting myself some of those H&M pillows right now! This may be a silly question, but where do you buy your pillow inserts? I have bought some with less than desirable quality, and am wondering if you have a favorite place to buy them? Thanks!
Thanks! Lately I have been buying all my inserts from Robey’s (http://www.wholesalepillowinserts.com). I always buy the 10/90 feather pillows and have been very pleased with the quality. Hope this helps!
I’ve been searching high and low for some accent pillows to compliment a pattern I already have in my family room. I think those blue striped H&M pillows might do the trick! Thanks for sharing!
The green and blue is SO pretty Sarah. I can’t believe how cheap those pillow covers are. I need to look into what is available in Canada:) Thanks for the ideas!
I NEED. To know where your white entry mirror is from! It’s amazing!!
Thanks Andrea! I got it from HomeGoods last year some time.
