Shutters

Room Makeovers + Design Plans

I am loving our new plantation shutters that were just installed!

I was in Houston this week on a business trip but my husband graciously allowed our plantation shutters to get installed on Monday while I was away. The install didn’t go without a few bugs but I think they look great so far. My husband believes they are coming back to re-install both the main office and bedroom shutters in a few weeks because of some shutter sizing issues. But he isn’t certain if it is both or just one. He listens as well as most husband do 😉

The only slight issue I see {besides the one section in the office that doesn’t actually fit right} is that I’m not sure they were supposed to cut the wands in between slats {I had asked for them to be sectioned to be able to close the bottom two-thirds in the office and the bottom half in the bedroom}. Should the wand still be a full size? Hopefully you can see what I’m talking about in the photos.

Here’s how they turned out {the befores of each rooms’ windows are in this post}.

The office:

Office window with white plantation shutters.
A view from the office into the hallway.
A side view of white shutters in the office.
The plantation shutters, a white vase and plant on the desk.

Still deciding if I should re-hang the drapes or not. I’m also more motivated now to actually style this room. But bottom-line: I LOVE that I can close the bottom two-thirds and not have the entire neighborhood see me blogstalking working every night.

Master bedroom:

Master bedroom with white plantation shutters and orb chandelier.
A long wooden bench with a leather seat in front of the window.
The bed in the master bedroom with a small window above it.

The window above our bed is growing on me. I originally thought it was weird that there was only one functional slat. But seeing it in photos it doesn’t bother me as much as the board & batten that is clearly NOT white. According to my husband {since I haven’t slept in the room since Sunday night} it is amazing how dark the shutters make the bedroom. Perfection for him. We can already tell a huge difference in how much cooler this room is at the end of each day as well. I already have the lovely fabric for panels to hang on the side of the main window in this room so I just need to get those sewn sometime this year.

From the outside looking at the office {with the queen guest bedroom in the upper window}:

The outside window with brown shutters on it.
The stone and wood exterior of the home.
The brow front door of the house with shutters on the window beside it.

I really love the street view of shutters. Makes me love them even more.

We’re going to try these two rooms out and see how we like them and then down the road we’ll decide if it makes sense to make the investment for additional rooms in the house. But so far, we love the ones we have!

P.S. Think it’s time for me to trim the landscaping?! Sheesh! But don’t worry – there’s currently a three inch path that you can use to get to our front porch. 😉

The shutters look awesome. I have one too in my master bath that I can close just the bottom portion. Great job!

I like what you said about cutting the wands in between slats. I need to get new hurricane shutters for storm season. I would love it if I could control them from my phone as well.
