Serene Blue Guest Bedroom Makeover Reveal

Room Makeovers + Design Plans

You guys! I am beyond excited today is finally here (a day early)! I’ve teamed up with hayneedle to bring you a full bedroom makeover in our guest bedroom and it’s now everything I hoped it could be!

But first, you may recall the room originally looked like this, shortly after we moved in:

Guest Bedroom Before - Life On Virginia Street

It really lacked any personality at all and was in desperate need of character and some fresh paint.

After some rushed design decisions, the space was updated, but it never really felt like it belonged in our home. The room was a bit cold, stark and modern for my taste, so I knew an overhaul was in order.

Life On Virginia Street's Guest Bedroom BEFORE

After drafting a design board and making the plans come to life, here is the space today! It’s the perfect serene blue guest bedroom with a subtle beachy-vibe that all of our visitors can enjoy for years to come!

Guest Bedroom Details with Life On Virginia Street and Hayneedle

You do not want to miss any of the details on this makeover!

You can see all the photos and read all of the details behind this room makeover over on the hayneedle blog (where you can also shop my full style board)! I’ll also be back later this week to walk you through my thought process on the design, as I know many of you have asked how to even begin a room makeover. I’ll offer tips on how you can feel confident in creating a space you’ve always dreamed of, as well!

I want to thank the team over at hayneedle for partnering with me on this project and for wholeheartedly supporting all of my design decisions! This is by far one of my most favorite projects to date!

I kept scrolling back and forth between the before and the after and let me say, the changes that you made make a dramatic difference in the whole feel of the room! I’m particularly eyeing the new light fixture so I’m going to hop on over to Hayneedle to see if it’s available there!

SO happy to see this post today! I’ve been considering large gray stripes on my landing’s walls, but wasn’t sure how it would go with all the navy I have in my house! This post came at a perfect time! And the blue in that throw blanket is perfection! Off to find those shelves… gorgeouss!!

The room is gorgeous! Love it! In fact I went on to Hayneedle to order a few items and had the WORST experience with them. It was my first time ordering with them but I loved that you had the mood board already set up, so ordered with them. They messed my order up and when I called to correct it (after receiving only one of the two items ordered) they would not honor the coupon to order an additional sham plus wanted to charge me additional shipping. Too bad. Still love the idea of your mood boards, such a great idea.

Sarah – the bedroom turned out beautifully. You have given me so many ideas for my own home ….thank you! Can you tell me where you found your bamboo shades from and what color & brand they are? I have been trying to find the perfect ones for my own home. Thank you!

Thank you so much! I actually got the shades at Lowe’s right off the rack. I don’t know the brand (I think it was maybe Levelor). They only had three colors and this was the mid-tone (the other was a more birch-like color and the other was really dark). They were really affordable and work well! I got the ones with the blackout liner. I hope that helps!

I’m SO in love with this room reveal! It’s exactly the sort of look I want for my master bedroom! Unfortunately I rent so I can’t paint walls which sucks. But I can certainly work with accessories and furniture! Shared this on my Facebook and pinning!! 🙂 x

The bedframe that you used, is it one that is on Hayneedle and you modified it?

Yes, that is the exact one. It actually comes with several lengths of posts so you can easily modify to get the look you want. I added the caps on the footboard since the room isn’t overly large. But I still have other lengths I can use that I just store under the bed!
