Looking for a way to quickly refresh and personalize your home for the holidays? I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to do so: by adding a gallery wall! Granted, I use this method year-round, but sometimes the holidays give everyone a little bit extra motivation to get things moving along!

As we’ve mostly wrapped up the unpacking process around here, we’ve moved on to the decorating stage to help things feel more like us! When starting with a blank slate, your home can easily feel sterile and not “you”. But, one of my favorite tips for really making your home your own is to personalize it with what you add to your walls! I’ve talked about simple and affordable artwork ideas in the past, and by adding a gallery wall to your home, you can truly customize your space in a way nobody else can!
My Favorite Gallery Wall Frame Styles
I prefer using oversized gallery wall frames to help things from looking too busy. But, I can absolutely appreciate a much more eclectic and maximalist style gallery wall, as well. The Home Depot has a huge selection of frames for all styles, as well as other decor and essentials to help you give your home a little refresh before the holidays arrive. They also currently have up to 40% off select furniture, decor & mattresses. They carry thousands of on-trend products to fit your style and complete your project so you can design your home from top to bottom in the style that’s right for you!
A few favorite frames worth noting:
- I’ve talked about, and loved, these designer look-for-less frames for years and they’re still a top pick! They come in a number of great sizes and finishes.
- We ended up using this affordable set of four frames in our new dining room and love how they turned out! You can see them down further in the post.
Following are even more styles of frames I love! Tap any of the images below to learn more about each of the frame styles shown.
Ideas For Images to Add To Your Gallery Wall
Not sure where to start? Here are a few ideas to help you get started on building a customized gallery wall in your home. Try using:
- Family photos
- Vacation photos
- Photos of your child’s artwork
- Photos of your pets
- Wedding photos
- Ancestor photos
- A series of photos of similar images. For example, beaches, various plants around your yard, animal photography, sunsets, etc.
Really, you can use just about any image that makes you happy and you want to see each day! To keep things cohesive, I like to use all black and white photos if I find there are too many colors going on. When you order prints, simply look for the black and white setting. I’ve found this to be an easy (and inexpensive) way to change up the images frequently and not have to worry about them “matching”!
Our Dining Room Gallery Wall
We had some blank wall space on either side of a single window in our dining room, and it felt pretty bare. So, I ordered this frame set and got to work. Well, actually I put Kurtis to work in exchange for me making dinner 😉 With family and friends visiting us in the coming weeks, I have been wanting to get our main level area fully decorated and feeling a bit more cozy. And what better way than adding the faces of the people we love most! In order to keep things cohesive, I ordered black and white versions of some of my favorite family photos to add to the frames.
I had Kurtis hold them up at various heights so I could let him know where I wanted them hung. He then did all the math and leveling to get them centered. One tip he found to make the overall process go much more smoothly: measure the location of the bracket on each frame (rather than assume they’re the same distance from the edge). So often, they’re slightly different and it can throw off your level measurements!
Love, love, love how they look in this spot! It makes our extra rattan armchair not look so random in the corner 🙂
With this frame set you can orient the mat either direction. Our BFFs are waiting to get their photos for their Christmas cards back from their photographer so I’m saving a spot for their photo. I’m waiting to see how it’s oriented before picking one of our nieces to add on the other side (hence the stock photos). I prefer all the mats oriented the same way, but also think it can be unique with vertical on the top row and horizontal on the bottom row.
This new view from the kitchen makes me so happy! The gallery wall just makes the whole space feel so much more finished!
Once we take the Christmas tree down next year, I’ll add another row of frames on the other side of the window, as well. I also ordered an additional set to take to Hola Beaches so I can add some of our drone photography of the Gulf! My goal in the new year is to finally offer the prints that so many of you have asked for. The year got away from me with the move, but it’s going to happen soon!
I’m so happy with this quick, easy, and personalized update to our dining room!
