I wanted to share with you our go to holiday appetizer for those who don’t have a lot of time to cook!Mezzetta Olives in green, and red on a white plate.

Don’t miss the fun giveaway at the end of this post!

Each year, we rotate which family we do Thanksgiving and Christmas with. When we head to Iowa for any given holiday, we all split up food duties. Typically each Christmas, my husband and I are usually in charge of two things: the bread and the olives.

Embarrassingly enough, we usually roll up with a bag of bread and a can of green and black olives from the grocery store. For reals.

Mezzetta Olives

After we spent a week in lovely Tuscany this summer, my love for olives has grown drastically and I’m appalled by what we used to serve. Over the years, I’ve also learned the importance of presentation in foods. Just because I can’t cook a fancy meal, doesn’t mean that I can’t make it look gourmet, right?

I decided it was time to up our appetizer assignment game!

Last weekend I did a trial run for Christmas and rounded up some take-and-bake Rosemary and Olive Oil bread from Target as well as three varieties of Mezzetta olives. It was hard to pick with the large flavor selection but I ended up getting the Italian Castelvetrano Whole Green Olives (where have these been all my life?!?), the Petite Blend Olives, and the Pitted Greek Kalamata Olives. I also cracked open the can of special olive oil we bought from a boutique grove in Italy!

Bread board with bread on it, and olive oil for dipping, plus a tray of olives beside it.

Quite honestly, the whole appetizer spread felt rather gourmet. I even impressed myself 😉

Doesn’t the ombre effect of the olives look beautiful! And really is there much else better in life than warm bread out of the oven dipped in olive oil? Mixed with the saltiness of the olives its hard not to get full before the main course.

I think it’s safe to say, I definitely upped our olive and bread game at our family holiday functions!

What a great idea! Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to fancy we forget that often times simple is best. And certainly less stressful!
