How To Beautifully Organize Your Home

Cleaning and Organization Tips

I was recently asked by Urusula of Home Made by Carmona to join a group of extremely talented ladies to share a home tour – but with a spin. The twelve of us are sharing a home tour featuring the organization features of our home, and the tours to date haven’t disappointed! Today I’ll be sharing my organizational home tour!

organize me pretty

I definitely do not profess to be the most organized person in the world, but I do love pretty containers to hold stuff and help me feel a little more organize. I love seagrass baskets, acrylic, glass containers, and wire baskets. Under each room tour below, I’ve included affiliate links to items you can shop to achieve a similar look!

My office is the first room you see when you walk in our house so it needs to be pretty, but it is also one of the most functional rooms in our house. The desk I use (that I re-worked from an old piece from my day office) is a total beast – but it also works very well for storage. Every drawer serves a purpose and it holds a ton important of documents and paperwork I like to have at hand. On top, I also have a seagrass basket to store our mail and a utensil holder I found at Target that is a wood/chalkboard combo to store all my pens/markers/scissors. I keep a desk calendar handy to use as an editorial calendar for my blog. I really try to plan my posts a few days out if possible. Having the calendar front and center helps me jot down ideas as I peruse various sites at night.

Moving on to the living room, the only area that requires much organization is behind one of the couches in the long black cabinet we have. We use it to store blankets, gaming equipment, etc. and with the glass fronts, it can all get a bit chaotic. So, I added some seagrass baskets to store all the seasonal throw blankets in and instantly, the area feels much more polished.

In the dining room, I have somewhat of an ‘open storage’ approach with the wine shelves I got from Costco a few years back. However, all of my less pretty glassware is then stored in the buffet below. I also use the buffet to store tablecloths and place mats so they are all close at hand when needed.

In the kitchen, our organization is much more functional than pretty, but it certainly helps me feel better. I love the pull-out waste cans, pan racks and pot organizers that we added. Worth every penny! You can read more about our kitchen organization here. The pantry is a little prettier, where I added some glass chalkboard jars from HomeGoods to store our baking supplies. By removing all the individual packaging, the supplies suddenly look much more cohesive!

Organization PantryGet the look:

In our upstairs hallway linen closet, we store a lot of the extra essentials: bath towels, light bulbs, razors, sunscreen, toilet paper, etc. I prefer to take a lot of the items out of their plastic packaging and store them in baskets or plastic crates. It helps the items to feel slightly less chaotic with the branding from every single item in your face.

Organization Linen Closet

In the craft room, which also serves as my movie room and workout room, I had to get creative with the organization and really define the spaces. The buffet table houses my TV components, DVDs, etc. while below it, I store my weights and other work-out equipment. Off to the side, you see I use a paint-dipped basket from Target to store our mats. On the opposite side of the room is where I sew, etc. so it is more of the creative space. With that, I tend to use my DIY inspiration board and glass jars to store the supplies {as well as the closet in the room}.

In the master bedroom, I have a jewelry stand I picked up at Michael’s a few years back for all of my necklaces and bracelets. I also have a cute ceramic tray from J. Crew Factory that I picked up a few weeks ago to corral my everyday items. These are both on our dresser. In the bathroom, I have an acrylic IKEA container that houses everything I use daily – so although it’s out in the open, it feels slightly more pulled together. I like to think of it as organized chaos.

Earlier, this year when we finished the craft room, I had to move the IKEA Expedit to one of our guest rooms. Although the Expedit can get a bit crazy it still does a great job of organizing and holding all my odds and ends – fabric, crafts, old scrapbook supplies, photo albums etc. Again, the baskets and boxes help to make some of the mess feel just a little bit more organized.

Hi!! This is so inspiring! Can you tell me where the dark brown wicker baskets that are in your ikea Kallax are from? I just bought a cube shelf and am looking for a darker option 😉
