One Room Challenge: Laundry Room Makeover Week 4

Room Makeovers + Design Plans

Thank you to Nebraska Furniture Mart for partnering with me on this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

Welcome to week 4 of the One Room Challenge! I can’t believe we only have two weeks left when I have so much to do yet! But first, if you didn’t see my other post today, be sure to stop and check out the gorgeous Pretty Project Features I posted prior to this.

Now, on to our laundry room progress. If you want to see my progress so far, you can check out my prior One Room Challenge updates below:

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3

Last week I shared my design plans for the space (yes, in week 3) and I’m really excited to continue adding more of these elements into the room each week.

Beachy Industrial Laundry Room Design Plans via Life On Virginia Street

One of the most exciting additions to our laundry room makeover is our new washer and dryer pair (hello, no more knobs-that-fall-off-with-each-use!) that we got from Nebraska Furniture Mart. I know it might not be as exciting as some of the decorative design elements in the space, but for us, it was a functional update the needed to happen! Our set arrived a few weeks back, and I wanted to try it out before I gave you guys my thoughts and show you how it looked in the space.

The guys that delivered the pair were awesome. Not only were they extremely careful bringing the new set up to our second-level laundry room, but they fully installed everything, gave me a brief demo of how everything worked and brought our old set down to the basement for me! We’ll likely be using the old set in a rental down the road. If you’re a long time reader of my blog, you may remember that the Nebraska Furniture Mart delivery guys saved Hawkeye (and me from a nervous breakdown) many years ago so I’ve pretty much loved them ever since. No life or death situations with this delivery, but I still appreciated the guys’ helpfulness!

And here’s how the set looks now in our in-progress laundry room! I love the contrast the pair adds to an otherwise all-white space. I think it will look even better if/when I swap out the light fixture for the one in the design board.
Laundry Room Progress with Samsung Washer and Dryer

Some of my favorite features of the washer/dryer pair:

  • You can easily pre-wash heavily soiled clothes and hand wash delicates with no mess with the built-in sink with water jet!
  • The sleek design and computer-like activation panel (a.k.a no more knobs that fall off every time we use it) seem so modern! I love the touch-screen panel in lieu of the rear control panel of older models.
  • The soft-close lid on the washer helps avoid the occasional head/hand-crunch when you reach in (admittedly, this happened far too frequently to me in the past).
  • There’s a super speed wash mode that allows you to wash an entire load start to finish in 36 minutes!
  • The dryer also functions as a steamer! Now I for sure won’t need to iron clothes 😉

And because I know talking about washers and dryers isn’t the most exciting thing ever, I thought I’d put one of my favorite features to the test in this quick little candid video we made. It’s so much easier to see than to read about. You also get to hear my voice (do I really sound like this??), see Kurtis in action, and be surprised by a few cute video bombers 😉

I know it’s far from finished (especially with only two weeks remaining), but can you believe how much progress I’ve already made, and how much better the new washer/dryer set looks in the space? The progress so far is good for me, especially given that I was traveling two of the last four weeks 🙂

Laundry Room Before and After - Life On Virginia Street

Laundry Room Progress with Samsung Washer and Dryer

Since I know there’s no way the tile floors will be done by the end of the challenge (or even the end of the summer for that matter), I found this rubber “rug” at Pearson & Company that gives the same look. The owner of the shop, Nancy, let me borrow it to see if I liked the look. It’s hard to envision without the cabinets painted, but I think it may work well to tie the gray, black and white together. Once I finalize art, I think I’ll have a better feel if it’s a good fit or not. If nothing else, I think it will work well (especially to cover our ugly peachy yellow linoleum) until I finalize what’s happening on the floor. Thoughts? Too dark?

Laundry Room In Progress with Rug

I still need to paint the cabinets gray, find the artwork for the wall and finish other projects as time permits (I know the shiplap and tile floor will be much further down the road). Now that we don’t have a typical rear panel on both units, we’ve also thrown around the idea of building a shelf above them to store items – and also to hide the ugly electrical and water connections.

Next week, I’ll be sharing our DIY ironing board/iron storage solution we came up with, along with other progress we’ve made so far. See you then!

A big thank you goes out to Nebraska Furniture Mart for providing me with the washer and dryer pair to review! We couldn’t be happier with the new set.

Love the look of the washer and dryer. The rug is petty but it darkens the space a bit.

LOVE the new set! I think the rug is too dark, from the “current” looks of the room it feels as is you are steering away from your normal coastal feeling.. in my opinion.

Looking REALLY good…but I agree that the rug is a bit dark.Looking forward to the finished product. 🙂 (I too have had really good experiences with Nebraska Furniture Mart.) Loved the appearance of two of your babies.

I love the soft close feature of this set! I too have had the washer top slam on my hand or head and it’s so obnoxious! Plus, they look so sleek!! Nice choice! Everything is coming together really nicely, friend!

I love LOVE the black and can’t wait to see how this space turns out. Sounds like a great set and we’ve been in the market for a new washer so I will definitely check these out…

Your previous washers had the plastic pan underneath them. Does the new black washer not need this pan? I would buy a new set just to get rid of that thing! Loving the progress!

Good question! I had asked the delivery guy about it and he recommended not using it any longer. I hated mine too, so I took his advice!

Oh my goodness, you have no idea how badly we need a new washer, can’t wait to check them out! We have the front loader, it’s not even old and every time I do laundry it smells like sewer. We just replaced the seal, we have bleached everything possible, drained it and everything else under the sun! Smart idea to get the top loader! Can’t wait to see how your laundry room comes out, I know it will be gorgeous!

I like the features in your new washer/dryer set! Definitely could use that steamer feature myself and will cut down my ironing tasks. The rug is a bit dark for the room and even after the cabinets get repainted gray it does seem like it would be off. Maybe finding patterns with your blue/navy color like the tiles you’ll be using would be a better match.

OMG. The right washer/ dryer will change your life!!! We had front loaders in the old house, and I just didn’t love them… for this house, we got ones like yours and I’m in LOVE!!! Looking good in there!
