New Hallway Sconces

My new hallway sconces are an upgrade from previous ones and completely changed the vibe!
Entryway with Doxology Canvas and Swing Arm Hallway Sconces.

Today is an exciting day! Not only did I finally upgrade our new hallway sconces I have an exciting giveaway for you guys at the end of this post! Also, if you’re looking for the Pretty Project Party, note that it is also up at the same time, one post prior!

As a reminder, here’s how our entryway hallway looked before.

White walls, a wood floor and benches in the hallway with blue and white pillows on them.

I never loved those particular sconces, but they were cheap and a huge improvement from what was originally there, as is evidenced by my before ‘before’ photo below.

Yellow and black hallway lights before being taken down and replaced.

A few weeks back I shared my favorite swing-arm sconces as I prepared to make changes in the entryway. I ultimately ended up going with these sconces in the polished nickel finish because they were on sale and the exact look I was going for!

I’m not going to offer a full tutorial on installing light fixtures (trust, me there are plenty out there that are likely better than anything I could offer). But I’ll share a few progress shots. Too bad you can’t see my giddy smile on the other side of the camera 😉 New light fixtures are one of the more exciting things in life for me.

A man replacing the sconce in the hallway.
A man using the Black+Decker Drill to drill where the new sconce will go.
A side view of drilling with the Black and Decker.

We used my new BLACK+DECKER 20v MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill that I got a week or so ago. We’ve actually used it on numerous projects already. I had to laugh because Justin, our landscape designer, helped us re-install a fence panel after sod came earlier in the week and he said it was one of the coolest drills he’d ever seen. I think he was surprised when I told him it was mine 😉 I love that it’s smaller and more light-weight than all the other drills we have – perfect for smaller scale projects. I also love that it has a built-in light! It worked like a dream for this project.

The cordless Black & Decker drill on the floor beside the sconce.

And here’s how the new hallway statement sconces look installed!

Entryway with Swing Arm Sconces above the mirror and picture.
Silver sconce above the mirror in hallway.
Entryway with Polished Nickel Swing Arm Sconces.

I love that they don’t look as squatty as our other ones and fill the space so much better. It’s safe to say that I’m in love with them!

Love that this drill is smaller and lighter! That would for sure come in handy because I can never hold my husband’s drill for long enough :). I would love to use this drill to repurpose a gifted dresser. I need to create new holes for new knobs!

As a side note/question, you always have the best pictures of your house. Sometime would you mind sharing what camera you use and/or settings to get that crisp and light look in your home? iPhone never seems to cut it :). Love your blog!

I refurbish old furniture with chalk and milk paint to resell in my store. I am forever taking off doors, handles and redrilling for new hardware.

My drill now is heavy and large. With the lighter and more compact model the drill would fit into all those tight spaces!!!

I love that it’s a lighter drill. Most of the other drills that I’ve used are heavy and it takes a toll on your arm. It’s also great that the drill has a light on it. I plan on building some outdoor furniture for our patio, so this would come in handy.

I like that it is smaller to fit a woman’s hand better. I have used tools since I was in diapers helping my dad build things. He still helps me out now at 76 years old. I now have osteoarthritis in my hands and can’t hold weighty items for a long time so this would be ideal. Even if I don’t win I will still go look at them and see if there are more tools they are making that are light. I have always used Blacker and Decker so I’m happy they are doing this!

I’m not sure which I like best- the light weight or the light! We’ve got so many projects waiting in the wings but I believe the first thing I want to use this lovely on is our under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen. The light weight makes it easier to use in that awkward position you need to be in when you lean over the counter and reach under the lower-hanging cabinets. My kitchen will be both brighter and prettier. Thanks for a great give-away chance!

The new lights look fantastic. They give your entryway a more modern look and dress up the space with their sleek design! As for the drill, I love that it’s lightweight and has an LED light included. You’ll find that as you age, both of these features will come in almost as handy as having the drill! I just moved and am turning my previous house into a rental, so I have a gazillion ( I kid you not!!) projects that it could be used on!

I have always wanted to have some TV trays for those times when we eat dinner in the living room, so I would use these tools to make that. Ideally I would make folding tables, but my skill level may not be ready for that.

Oh my, such PERFECT timing! My husband’s much beloved drill (which he has had since before we started dating and got married) is obviously on its way out/dying and it is NOT content to go quietly into the night. Over the past few weeks it has taken on an obnoxious strangled cat/dying woodpecker? sound that I’m convinced is either a ploy for further sympathy at pending separation from my husband or possibly an attempt to draw the neighbors in hoping one of them will have sympathy and put “her” (I’m convinced hubby has a secret name for her) out of her misery since my husband does not have the heart to do so. In fact, in one last ditch attempt to save said drill he purchased some new brushes for her which resulted in a smell that permeated the walls because it nearly burned up what was left of the motor. At this my husband emerged from his workshop smelling like burnt flesh, admitted defeat and that we need to purchase a new drill. ****CUE moment of silence and hospice designation for current drill. 😉 We are in the middle of building a fireplace and surrounding cabinetry currently so funds are low and drills are not cheap. I would love to win so very much and surprise him with the most awesome gift of a new drill! He will adore how easy it is to use and I LOVE the fact that it is lighted and light/easier for me to manage than his existing heavyweight. Thanks so much for the chance to win and complete our fireplace/cabinetry plus other projects!
