Mini Floor Plans and Measurements Book

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and DaySpring, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #DayspringSadieRob http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

During our Haven presentation, we had talked about the importance of always having key measurements, paint color swatches, fabric swatches, etc. handy when you are trying to decorate a room. I quickly realized that although I had measurements on my phone, there was absolutely no organization around the information and really, it was hard to find what I was looking for at any given point in time.

Over the weekend, I compiled a quick and easy book with mini floor plans and measurements and I thought you may find it helpful to see my method and compile the information for your own home!

I picked up the below products form Sadie Robertson’s “Live Original” line. I got the journals from Hobby Lobby and the folders at Walmart. Not only were they really cute, but I loved the inspirational messages and the bible verses that were included along with some of the products. Although I think the line is more directed at teenage girls, I loved the patterns and messages. There’s nothing like a little encouragement staring you in the face when you are figuring out the dirty details of a project!

For this project, I ended up using the journal on the left in the photo above. The way it is bound, it allows for the pages to essentially fold flat, making it much easier for drawing/writing/etc. Perfect for my intended purpose!

I started out with a basic sketch of the room I was working on, which if you follow me on Instagram, you know I spent a lot of time in the dining room this weekend (I’ll be sharing some major progress tomorrow).

Keep in mind your drawings can be rough and certainly don’t require an art degree by any means. I knew I wanted dimensions for certain items in the room handing so I created placeholders for that information as well, as you can see in the image below.

Mini Floorplan and Measurements

I then started all my measurements, logging them into the journal as I moved about the various items in the room. As you can see, I also thought it would be handy to have a paint chip and replica of our light included as well. Once I finalize some fabrics, you can see I also left space to tape that in as well down the road.

Mini Floor Plans And Measurements for Dining Room

Following is a list of items that may be helpful in your mini floor plan and measurement book:

  • Room dimensions
  • Window measurements
  • Door measurements
  • Any measurements of structural items you need to work around
  • Paint chips and/or paint formulas
  • Fabric swatches
  • Wall measurements if you’re looking for a piece to fill a particular spot
  • Measurements of larger pieces of furniture in the space
  • Ceiling height if you’re shopping for drapes

By having this information handy, you’re less likely to buy something that doesn’t fit properly in your space and can help avoid some buyer’s remorse down the road.

I love how my mini floor plan turned out and I plan to use all the pages of the journal to cover a different area in our house. It will be so nice now when I’m looking to order something online and I don’t have to re-measure time and time again. So, what do you think – would this be helpful for your own home?

You can check out more of these adorable products by visiting the Live Original website or the DaySpring website.

I have a book like this! I keep it in my purse, that way when I’m out I can refer to it if I see something that works in a room scheme. And I always have a tape measure in my purse too. These book designs are super cute! Thanks for sharing!

Brilliant, Sarah! I love the cute notebooks… much better than the dregs of my purse contents (which is where my color swatches and measurements usually lie 😉 ).

You are so clever, Sarah! I really *should* have something like this to carry around. This weekend we were at a little boutique furniture shop and they were having an amazing sale. I was this close to buying a piece but I wasn’t sure if it would fit in our house. The moment I got home – I measured and sure enough it would have been perfect. A notebook like this would have totally saved me!

Great thinking, Sarah! I’m super disorganized when I shop to decorate a room, I should make one of these!

What a great idea, and cute folders and notebooks! I keep dimensions in my phone, but it’s always handy to have swatches along, too. Thanks for the great idea!
