On to today’s post. As I mentioned yesterday, today I’m on another blog hop with the following challenge: each day, starting yesterday, one new blogger will post a 4th of July project with one catch. We were challenged not to use the traditional red, white and blue.
I don’t consider myself a true “craft” blogger but even I could manage this one. I made a very simple framed word art – “let freedom ring” – using some cardstock and gold glitter glue as my “color”. Now, technically I used white, but I considered it “white-space” not white, so it totally counts 😉 Here’s my easy tutorial.
I started out by making a simple sign in PhotoShop (but you could use virtually any software that lets you type). For those interested, I used the font “Janda Stylish Script”, a free font I had found a few years back. I made the script a beige color so that if you could see through my glitter it wouldn’t be an obvious black ink.
I ended up only using the bottle on the right that you see above. I was worried the coverage wouldn’t be thick enough, but this little $2.99 glitter glue from Michael’s worked like a dream and was extremely glitter-concentrated. I simply followed the lettering on the paper with the tip of the glue bottle. If I messed up at all along the way, I simply scraped off the excess glue and started again. With the glitter glue and one sheet of cardstock at $.49, this project came in at under $3.50!
The only issue with this glue is that I had to let it dry overnight {it seemed to take forever to dry}. I found a basic white frame that I had on hand and voila! Some new 4th of July art! I love the end result – subtle and understated yet still very patriotic!
I can’t wait to see all of the other non-traditional projects now until the 4th of July! And did you enter our $310 Target Gift Card giveaway yesterday? Be sure to check it out. You’ll also find a lot of great summer inspiration in that post as well so don’t miss out!

I did not expect it to be that simple, I figured a Cricut or some other extravagant machine was involved. I’m happy to see it was elementary level – great job!

Sometimes simple is best. This is a clever, understated – but GLOWING – way to celebrate any patriotic holiday. I will surely pin and make this!
