Laundry Room Design Board

I’m ridiculous. I totally admit it. I have several unfinished projects lingering {finish painting our master bedroom, finish painting the king guest bedroom, finish painting the upstairs hallways, finish the office…} and yet, I feel like they are “mentally” finished. So “mentally”, I’ve moved on to my next project!

I told my husband tonight on the way to dinner that I had our next project planned. His response? “No, no, no, no, no.” He didn’t care what it entailed or which room it was in. He said I couldn’t start anything else until I finished the others {which he thinks is only the two bedrooms, so at least I’m ahead in that arena}. Little does he know, I plan to have the two bedrooms wrapped up this weekend! Green light: laundry room 🙂

As a reminder, here’s where we basically stand in the room. Although this photo was taken during a walk-through when the prior owners owned the home, literally nothing has changed – other than it being our washer and dryer in the room versus theirs.

Here’s is the laundry room design board that I hope to achieve. It will need to be completed on a really tight budget of under $150 total.
Colorful laundry room design board with white walls with silver star decals, striped totes, a linear chandelier, colorful abstract art, and coastal inspired decor.
Here’s what was used in the design board:
  • Seeing Stars vinyl decals in silver from Urban Walls. More on that below.
  • Eldridge Rectangular Chandelier from Ballard Designs – I can’t afford this version but think the long rectangular shape would be perfect in this “galley” laundry room. I’m on the hunt for a cheaper version. I’ve also thought about using something more glamorous like this from Overstock.
  • Trellus print by Michelle Armas. All of her artwork is amazing and the perfect mix of color. I had a hard time narrowing my selection down to this one. I would love to someday own one of her large canvases, but this 13×13 print will be perfect for this small, rarely-seen {by us or the public} room.
  • Rugby Stripe Bins from the Container Store. I already own three of these and have them up on that shelf you see above the washer and dyer.
This room would be much more light, bright, and fun to do laundry in by following this design board! Let’s inspect the elements further.
The jumping point is the Seeing Stars vinyl decals from Urban Walls that I won from my sarcasm idol, a few months back {you may remember me discussing ideas for use back here}. There are no windows in this room, but I can’t complain since I love having a dedicated laundry room – that isn’t also the entry to our garage like it was in our last home. With that being said, I’ve decided to paint everything white in Swiss Coffee by Behr {which may eventually include painting the linoleum floors as well – still need to research that option}. And then I’ll just add a cute runner over the floors for some color.
Knowing that it was going to be a white room, it was either more stripes or using the silver star decals I had selected. Since I think I’m going another route in our mudroom, I think the laundry room is the perfect place to add a little dose of personality. Hence the stars.
It all moved forward form there. To add some color and energy to the room, I purchased a Michelle Armas print off Etsy on Wednesday night as my plan was formulated. I purchased the Trellus print {but seriously contemplated the Laura print – which I think is more popular} but I think I made the perfect choice for this room. Love, love, love the colors and I’m so excited for it’s arrival!
I also plan to do something with that countertop – the reddish brown isn’t going to work with this plan. And since a new surface isn’t in the budget {husband’s words, not mine}, I am thinking of trying a DIY like Jenny’s concrete countertops {husband says sounds like a mess – I say sounds easy} or use something like Rustoleum’s Countertop Paint {has anyone tried this?}.
And lastly, for continuity throughout the rest of the house, I’ll plan to use some boxwoods or recycled glass on the countertop and/or shelving space, much like I most recently did in our entryway.

Do you think it’s a waste to work on a room that’s rarely seen? I think I’m looking at it as a much more manageable {and affordable} project for once! I’m hoping to get some white paint up this weekend. After I wrap up all the other projects….of course 😉

I think a rarely seen room is a great opportunity to try something over the top whether it be gold dots, bright colors or funky countertops. You have to be “safe” in rooms that you constantly use…the laundry room is a great spot to go all out in!!!! I’m loving your moodboard.

You and I so totally have the same taste…although this is similar to my plan for my living room…not my laundry room! HA! That Eldridge pendant is what I’ve been eyeing for about 3 weeks…and there is a lantern style single pendant that I’m after, too. And I already have a Michelle Armas painting selected for my mantel….too funny!!! Love the decals, so fun for that space. I saw that Jenny Komenda link the other day- YOU TOTALLY NEED TO DO THE CONCRETE! She is amazing and makes everything look so easy when it has to be complicated…but you do that too! Also, I’m not sure if you plan on hanging your print over your washer and dryer, but open cafe shelving (like Ballard’s) would look great and give you a little more storage too. This looks like the perfect winter project, after you’ve finished all the others! :)Love this room!
