You’ve probably noticed its been a LONG time since I’ve posted about any projects around the house.  And that’s because I have been in a decorating slump lately.  I really don’t know which direction to take various rooms, and being much wiser that I was in the past, I am just sitting idle rather than doing something I probably won’t like in three months.

We had placed the order for our hardwood floors for our entire main level about six weeks ago.  It was a HUGE decision for us to move forward with, but we were excited.  Then about two weeks ago, I got a call that our flooring was now only sold exclusively through Lowe’s {we were buying through Nebraska Furniture Mart} and Armstrong {the manufacturer} wouldn’t budge and let us have it through the Mart.  We checked out the floors at Lowe’s and the price was nearly double….SO, back to the drawing board.  It took so long to get to that point and finally make a decision that I just don’t have the energy to start from scratch again {and its likely we won’t be able to find as good of a deal anywhere}.

So, this is the state of our living room.  It is SUPER inspirational right now.  Hopefully you sense my sarcasm.  If not, you will when you see the pictures of the current look.  We’ve had the couches since December now, and though I would not have initially been drawn to them, I really love how well they work for us.  They are durable {no smushed pillow backs from the cats}, they are very comfy and they clean up easily with cat hair – plus I love the subtle herringbone pattern.  We couldn’t have picked better if we tried.

Now back to the room itself – Yikes – check out our disassembled sectional that’s still in the room {we need to move it to the bonus room but it requires more than two people} and all those pillows!  Lowe’s no longer carriers the mirror seen below in black {only white} so the area by the fireplace looks really lopsided.  This room needs serious help – it’s like a sea of beige and then our random brown leather sectional!  Oh, and I just realized we still haven’t ever taken the tags off the couches.  Awesome!Living room set up

The cats love the new furniture as much as we do {especially when their dad is home at night or weekends and they can pile up on him}.  Since he has been gone, I’ve had to schedule in couch time because they get a little crazy without their routines.  The funny thing is, even Hawkeye will join the party when I’m up there.  I felt so bad about leaving them all week that I even slept on the couch with them last night {hence the pillow in the photos above that I was too lazy to put away}.

I have found some living rooms on Pinterest lately that capture what I am thinking look wise for the room.  Beachy colors without the beachy themed items:

beach living room set up
{via – I really love the fabric on that big pillow and that light blue ottoman is so cute}
living room set up
via – I am thinking a striped rug like this but in navy rather than brown

modern living room
via – our furniture layout would be very similar to this – now I just need those French doors

blue and white living room
via – although these stripes are smaller than I would use, it shows the look with dark wood floors and white drapes
beach themed living room
via – apparently I am a fan of this light blue version as well – I found it pinned three times!

At the rate I’m going, maybe I will have finalized some planning by early 2013.
