Thank you all so much for all the sweet words about our Christmas home tours these past two weeks (you can get caught up here in case you missed them).

Today, I’ve partnered up with some talented bloggers and Home Decorators Collection for a new spin on my holiday home tour. I wanted to share some of the details and thought process that went into my decor this year, as I feel like the little details sometimes make the biggest impact! I wanted to focus particularly on the updates in our living room, because for me, it is the space for us that on a day-to-day basis we spend the most time and get the most enjoyment out of.

LIVING ROOM SOURCES: ‘O Holy Night’ Canvas | Green and Navy Plaid Pillow (similar) | Velvet Pillow Covers | Navy & Indigo Riad Pillow Cover (made by me, but same pillow here) | Glass Lamp

But let’s first step back. You may recall that last year, I went bold and bright in the living room with plaids and red velvet pillows. This year, I felt the need to tone things down a bit and my jumping off point for the rest of my selections was the navy and hunter green fabric you see above on the first pillow. I found it at the fabric store in the suiting section and felt it would be perfect for throw pillows.

From there, I went down the navy and green path and ran with it.

Two major updates from prior years occurred in our living room: we add a tree to the room and I added wreaths to each of the five windows. I can’t even begin to describe just how much these two, seemingly simple updates made to our space, particularly at night with the additional glow from their lights!

Living Room Christmas Tree with Navy Ornaments - Life On Virginia Street

Personally, I think the stars of the living room this year are these mixed pine wreaths. I simply hung them each from the window trim with some rich navy grosgrain ribbon and a pushpin. I like to keep it easy 😉 The wreaths look so realistic and even have deep blue berries on them to go with my pillows. Obviously they were made for me 😉 I also love that they are battery operated and have built-in timers so I have them set to turn on about 15 minutes before we arrive home each night!

The second major addition was the Christmas tree. I looked to find the perfect shape and size for the corner and I love this one we found.

These gorgeous glass icicle ornaments look so beautiful when the sun shines in or the Christmas lights are on. The reclaimed wood tree topper adds the perfect rustic touch to the tree and all the other glam, more polished elements.

I’m also loving my new ‘All Is Calm’ Christmas tree skirt. It goes perfectly with my ‘O Holy Night’ canvas and I love the beautiful handwritten message. It also inspired my DIY Chalk Marker Gift Wrap packages.

The metal stag head that I hung up last year (that was meant to be taken down in January but is still up – oops!) got a little festive touch with a navy and green plaid scarf around it’s neck. Obviously.

The nativity scene helps remind us of the true meaning of the season!

On the coffee table, I filled my dough bowl (or, the baby bath as my husband refers to it) with some greenery and ornaments. Again, everything ties back to the navy and hunter green pillows. The wood orbs and pine cones help add some additional rustic touches to the space to go with the wood star tree topper.

At night, I feel like the space is so much more beautiful with the glow from all the lights! It’s actually ridiculous just how happy all the additional lights make me.

I think I’m going to be sad when January rolls around and I have to take all these beautiful decorations down!

Do you ever find that one simple and rather basic fabric can be the entire inspiration for a room design? I’d love to hear what inspires your holiday decor!

I love your home, you have done a wonderful job in decorating it for Christmas. I’m always on board with choosing a specific color theme for the holidays, mine has always been red, and I’ve being eyeing the Martha steward blown glass ornaments in red this year.
