This beautiful coastal guest bedroom is not yet complete but I wanted to share with you the summer updates that I have made.
I’ve said it before, but I really struggle with showing you guys decor updates if things don’t feel finished to me. But I also realize I need to get over that mentality since it isn’t real life. So, today I’m going to show you some beautiful guest bedroom summer updates. It’s not the end game I have in mind for this room, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction!
First, as a reminder, here was our coastal guest bedroom progress last time I shared. It was shortly after I had painted the wall Benjamin Moore Classic Gray for a timeless look (the board and batten and trim is Behr Swiss Coffee). We had also recently added a desk to the space for our guests and to serve as a second office if Kurtis and I were both working from home and one of us needed to be on the phone. But, the bedding was intended more for the cold winter months (velvet) and it was time for a simple seasonal refresh.
Summer is the most important season to me for guests, mostly because that’s when people want to visit us. So, I try to reflect the happy season in the space with lots of coastal blues, greens, and neutrals. Otherwise known as the colors I always use. Now, onto the fresh updates I’ve made for the summer months!

The makeover started when Vera Bradley sent me this quilt to style for an Instagram post. It’s actually reversible (even if I’m not sure if it’s intended to be). The one side is a really pretty coral floral pattern. But the back is this darling pick-stitch stripe like pattern. So perfect for the end of the bed and adding additional layers when the air conditioning gets too cold for guests.
You may then remember I picked up this mirror and this vase while on a Target run one day. The prices were too good to resist for just how cute they both were! They both found a home in this room and I love the woven detail on the mirror. For the size, it’s a total steal!
I still haven’t found “the pillows” for this bedroom space, so I pulled some from our living room and other guest bedroom to make a whole new look in this room. Â It does add personality but until I really find something I love, I didn’t want to spend any money for interim pillows. And I’m loving how this pairing turned out! The back diamond dot pillows are the shams that go with the Vera Bradley quilt, but again flipped backwards. Although I made the paisley pillows, you can get them here on Etsy.
I basically still treat the blue-toned rug like a understated neutral in the space. And yes – we still haven’t centered it yet after realizing a month or two after we placed it that it was way off-center. Maybe one of these days 😉
I’m also thinking of using this art we used in our living room in summers past on the wall to the left as you walk in. I think it may be the perfect touch!
I forget sometimes just how fulfilling it can be to shop your own home and then only get a new item or two for an entirely new look. But I love how this turned out! I’ll keep you posted with any other decor updates I make in the room. If I find “the pillows” I’ll likely do another minor tweak, but chances are, I’m good now through the end of summer. And I hope you enjoy seeing a more real-time update versus a before and after than makes it look like everything happened overnight!

Nice bedroom! I love the makeover! I like the vase and the combination of pillows the most.
