I have a work event in November that is black-tie.  I personally love being able to dress up since it is a rare occasional. Unfortunately, Pinterest provides amazing ideas in this area – but most are well out of my price range.  I have found I am really attracted to the one-strap dresses this year too.  Here are some stunners I have seen recently:

Has anyone ever tried Rent The Runway? I would love feedback on that as well. Granted the rental fees are about {or a little above} what I pay to buy a dress each year {that I get to keep} but in reality, I never wear them again so it’s probably a wash. And you get to wear a crazy nice dress for a fraction of retail. I also love that they tell you the models height and size, as well as recommendations for ordering up/down/normal size, so you can better gauge how it will look on you.  Here are a few I thought were cute:

Keep in mind, the average person at this event is 20+ years older than me and I want something that is fairly conservative.
