For the Love of Stripes

Decorating Ideas, Tips and Trends, Room Makeovers + Design Plans

For the love of stripes are my new panel curtains, that look amazing in my dining room!

Striped curtains in dining room with a rooster statue on the wooden table.

You’ve all heard about my stripe obsession. I have been longing over some striped drapes for our new dining room but when I needed ten panels, it really didn’t look like it would ever be a reality. Until Black Friday walked in with some AMAZING deals!

The ones I had looked at {Veranda Stripe Linen Drapes} were looking pretty appealing around $50 a panel {sold at numerous stores online – original retail of $170+ per panel}. But today they were an online Black Friday special at both Overstock and Linens N Things. In addition, I had an additional 10% off coupon at Overstock. They came in at $31 per panel! Since my panels are 108″, this was less than $10/yard of fabric. There was no way I could make them for anywhere near this cheap. Thankfully, we had Visa gift cards after we bought our bed earlier this year, so my all-too-generous husband let me use it for the kitchen lights and the striped curtains {so we had to pay very little out-of-pocket}.

My only problem then was deciding between the brown and the charcoal. I loved them both and wasn’t sure which color would look best in the new house {especially since I am going solely off the pictures I had taken on our last visit there}.  When I asked the hubby –  he voted for charcoal. I ultimately decided on the charcoal after a quick Photoshop mock-up. It also helped that in the 108″ length, the gray were cheaper than the brown.

Now, don’t be jealous of my mad Photoshop skills.  I know it all looks pretty realistic 😉 The future wall color is off {it will likely be much lighter and greige vs. a true gray} but I am horrible at color-swapping. And don’t worry, our table and chairs won’t be at an angle – I just have to work with what I’ve got! And how perfect does my infamous rooster look in this room.

The dining room with green walls without the curtains, the dining room painted a neutral color with striped curtains hanging up.

I am already so excited about this room! My only concern is that there may not be enough space between the corner of the wall and each window {there are four windows in this room in addition to the sliding doors} and I don’t really want to cover up any of the actual window.

And for those interested in seeing the gray/brown comparison:

It’s safe to say I am already in love with our new dining room! Now I just need to talk to my electrician {father-in-law} to see how hard it would be to add another light fixture location for a chandelier – currently there are just can lights in the room and none centered over the table.

And because this is so much more fun than packing here is a view of the dining room while standing in the kitchen – also with the new pendants! Again, wall colors are way off.

The dining room in a light green and the dining room painted a neutral color with silver lights.

And one last photo of the “after”:

A wooden table in the dining room, a round mirror on the wall, and striped curtains.
