I recently ordered the Emery Pendant light from Quoizel.
I posted before about my love of the Benson Pendant and the Home Depot alternative I considered. However I was convinced I should go with the nickel finish. But the more I looked at it and the more rooms I looked at with the same style of light, I decided I preferred the chrome. The nickel just looked too heavy and substantial, whereas the chrome seemed to blend better with the reflective surfaces.
Lighting Decisions
I was also really struggling with the size. I want them to be much more substantial than the lights currently in the kitchen but I didn’t want them to be so large they became the focal point of the room. Virtually every photo I found were of the 11-13″ wide lights. And in many cases the 7-8″ ones looked too little. However, in many situations, these were in much larger kitchen spaces than ours.
Pendant Lights
As a reminder, Â this is how the kitchen currently looks. I’m estimating the current pendants to be about 4″ wide so I knew I wanted 7″ at minimum for the new lights. When standing at the sink at the island you look straight across to the television in the living room, so I also wanted to ensure the view wasn’t completely blocked with a large light.
Last night, I purchased three of the Emery Mini Pendants from Quoizel from Joss & Main. {If you current don’t have an account you can register here for free}. I stumbled upon them in my constant search for lighting options and I really loved them.  They are less like Restoration Hardware’s Benson and more like the Restoration Hardware Harmon Pendant shape-wise. I can’t find these lights in a room anywhere online, but the reviews I found were good – and they were more than half off retail, making them about the same price as the Home Depot version.
This particular light is approximately 8.5″ wide at the base so I am hoping the scale is appropriate. Unfortunately there are no returns on this item, so I am hopeful it works out. Worst case I figured I could sell on eBay since many stores still sell these at full retail. Â I think this is a little more glam and lavish than the Home Depot alternative. I should have pictures to share with these fully hung by Christmas!
