Take a look at my simplified, streamlined approach to decorating in my early fall home tour!
The arrival of fall is tough on me this year. I’m such a summer girl and, even though I actually like fall, I hate that it means winter is approaching. But, I’m slowly coming out of denial that summer is nearly over. Today I’ve teamed up with the lovely Marty from A Stroll Thru Life, along with a group of other talented bloggers, to share part of my early fall home tour with you. I’ll be sharing a little more of our fall home over a three week window.
For today’s tour, you’ll quickly see I’ve taken a very simplified, streamlined approach to decorating for fall this year. At this point, I have zero pumpkins. I have zero fall leaves. I have no shades of orange or yellow. However, I think you’ll see that through some of the layers and textures I’ve added, our decor feels slightly more cozy and warmer than it did in the summer months. My color palette didn’t waver this year from my favorite blues, greens, and neutrals, but the colors have become more saturated for fall. I’ve also found that fig leaves and/or buffalo check have shown up in nearly every room in our home in one way or another. Enough talk – on with the tour!
My Simplified Fall Decor
Our fall entryway so far has seen the least amount of change. I made a few pillow swaps and clipped some fresh limelight hydrangeas. Other than that, I’ve kept most of our regular pieces around and my Doxology canvas still takes center stage.
Our limelight hydrangeas are currently blooming like crazy, and they make me so happy to see! I clipped a few to use around our home for decorating purposes.

Moving on to our living room, I kept the same fig leaf pillows I used for summer, but add some rich green velvet pillows for added texture. They pair together perfectly. Then I added in some faux fig branches I picked up on clearance at the end of season last year at Pottery Barn. I still haven’t moved our giant palm tree print, but I know it’s inevitable that I’ll have to in the next week or two. As you can see below, Bearcat was just daring me to try and move him for my photo shoot.

In our dining room, I continued the fig leaf look with the same branches I have in our living room. I love how the figs look with our buffet table!
I feel like our live fiddle leaf fig grew a foot this past summer while in the dining room. I think it’s loving all the indirect natural sunlight. Don’t mind the Saran wrap on the planter – it’s to keep the curious cats out 😉

I made a few recent changes in our pretty guest bedroom. With a few pillow swaps and the addition of the fig tree from our master bedroom (it was in need of more light), it feels like a new cozy space ready for fall! I think the injection of a bit of green in the room is just what it needed!

I hope you enjoyed the first part of my early fall tour! I’ll be back next Tuesday with even more spaces in our home – and maybe some pumpkins 😉 The next stop is Decorating Delirium. Jennifer has such a beautiful home and wonderful decorating ideas! If you’re looking for even more inspiration, you need to check out all the other stops on the tour. So much eye candy and inspiration!

It’s always so nice to come to your home tours. your home is always so beautifully decorated and styled. PS. Hope you are enjoying your pool.

I always love the colors you use…so pretty. I have a hard time transitioning to fall too. It’s hard to go from weekends at the beach back to school and cooler weather routines. Although, it’s still pretty hot here in NJ – we are supposed to hit 90 this afternoon! Great tour! Enjoy the rest of your week!

I absolutely adore how you have transitioned summer into fall Sarah. The palm pillows are swoon worthy.

Beautiful pictures and I loved that you take the no leaves approach too. I had to laugh as I just wrote about this myself. We have recently relocated to Florida from Iowa. How do people introduce fall in a coastal area? Or do they? Nothing from the Hobby Lobby faux fall aisle for me. 😀 I loved that plant you have in your bedroom. I’m afraid I would kill it but I really liked that organic element. I recognized one of the pillows as something I also have. I see a similarity in our styles. So happy I found you.

It is all so beautiful, Sarah – warm and inviting from the first step in the front door. Happy Wednesday!

Sarah, what a great idea with the Saran wrap. My mom has 2 cats and we have had to remove all her beautiful plants. Ha, we can now bring them back and not worry about all the snooping that cats do! Thanks for the tips and love your selection of colors!

I know you’d miss your pool for sure once it starts getting chilly, but no doubt, your home is still filled with tons of inspiration Sarah! So honored to share this Fall Home tour with you!
Doreen @ Hymns and Verses says
Your home is gorgeous, as always, Sarah! Your fiddle leaf figs look healthy! I killed mine this summer by moving it to my porch – way to much sun and heat. Now, I’ve got to get a new one! They are just the perfect house plant! I love your colors and I’m green with envy for those olive green velvet pillows in your guest bedroom! Thanks too for giving us the daily updates! Really appreciate it!
Pam @ Simple Details says
Lovely tour Sarah! Your guest room pillow combo is the BEST, I think I’d keep it fall, winter, spring and summer! 🙂
Jennifer@decoratingdelirium says
Love all the blues and greens. Especially in your guest bedroom. I wish that was my master bedroom!! I was so curious about the plastic on your Fiddle leaf fig. Great tip for cats!
SE says
Sarah, is the piece on the chest in the dining room also a Sugarboo product?
Sarah says
I actually got it at HomeGoods and it reminded me of Sugarboo! They are the only comparable item I can find but they are SO expensive (but also very beautiful). You could also check your HomeGoods to see if they have something similar 🙂

What is your secret to taking care of your fiddle leaf fig? I have two fiddle leaf figs and I struggle to keep them alive. The edges of the leaves always turn brown.
Sarah says
I water mine once a week and have them in spaces that get a lot of bright light (without direct sunlight). They’re so finicky that I try to avoid putting them near the heat/AC registers as well.
