This blue Christmas blog hop focus is on ornaments used in non traditional ways!
The Blue Christmas Blog Hop officially kicks off today with our first project: Ornaments. And since we have additional week to feature wreaths/wall decor, mantles/tables, and trees, this week I am going to focus on using ornaments in a less traditional sense and in uses that don’t involve the other weeks’ projects.
Christmas Ornaments
I pulled out all my totes of decor last weekend and got to work. With this being the first Christmas in our new {to us} home, I had to find a new place for everything. I started out by deciding where to use my traditional Christmas color decorations and where I wanted to incorporate some blue and change things up a bit. I decided the dining room would stay traditional red and green and the living room and office would be peacock blue, green and metallic colors {mostly silver and gold}. Here’s a glimpse into each of the room:
The living room: In keeping with the existing blue and green color scheme, I picked up some blue and green ornaments from Garden Ridge. I bought a package of 40 non-breakable ornaments for $9.99 along with a few $3.99 packs of the mini-glitter bulbs and filled some of them in a glass jar I had previously purchased from Gordmans. I brought in my ‘O Holy Night’ canvas from Lindsay Letters and found a nativity scene from Hobby Lobby for $34.99. That was the extent of my decorating purchases in this room. I then swagged a festive garland over the existing mirror use some 3M wreath hooks. The office will be done in a similar color scheme but I’m saving that room reveal until the week showcasing our trees.
The dining room: As I mentioned, I stuck with a traditional color scheme in the dining room, which worked well with the existing dark gray and linen-colored tones. I opted to hang decorative ornaments from some of the windows using ribbon and tacks {I simply strung the ribbon through the ornament and secured it on the top of the window frame with a clear tack. Then I re-purposed two old Pottery Barn frames I had to hold some art from Oh My Deer. I love how it turned out!
As you may be able to tell, I am purposely hiding the tablescape {which also includes ornaments} which will be revealed during…you guessed it, mantles and tables week!
And one of my favorite features is the dining room at night. I’ll give you a little sneak peak of something I will show further during tree week. There’s nothing better in my mind that bright white lights at Christmas time!
That is the extent of my non-traditional use of ornaments this year. I found it was quite hard to just photograph these items without giving too much away about the rest of the decor used in the room that will be featured in later weeks!
Be sure to visit the other fabulous blogs that are part of the blog hop and then be sure to stop in the next three Fridays for even more blue Christmas decor!
I love! Blue is so gorgeous and nontraditional for the holidays. I have primarily red & white, and i’d really like to mix in some blue this year. 🙂

I love those gorgeous blue and green ornaments in your glass container- and I seriously love that container! Your chalkboard look O Holy Night Canvas is so pretty too – that is one of my favourite carols.
Love the ornaments in the hurricane with rope handle. Simple, festive and so coastal!
