Yes, I fully realize we’re still in January so talking about outdoor plans might seem a little premature. But hear me out! A) I’m just really excited for spring. B) I love to be prepared going into my favorite seasons so I can wrap up all the projects that need to be done prior to then, and we can maximize our use and enjoyment! Plus, it never hurts to get ahead of the crowds on ordering seasonal outdoor items, to avoid falling in love with something that sells out. So, today I’m sharing our Amalfi Coast inspired pool and cabana design plans

Our Current Pool and Cabana Area
Before jumping into the plans, I wanted to share a bit of background. With a few delays in moving into our new home last year, we weren’t able to use our pool and cabana all that much. We moved in just prior to Labor Day weekend, then the pool wasn’t fully up and running for a few weeks. By the time October rolled around, we had visitors and we were still focusing on unpacking all of our boxes rather than relaxing in the pool 😉
But this year, we fully plan to maximize our time out here! One of the biggest reasons for our move to Florida was to maximize sun and leave behind cold winters. AKA, a longer pool season! Granted, we still have four seasons here in the panhandle, but our “winter” at most times is closer to fall temps in most of the country. Here’s Kurtis the first time he got to watch football from the pool at a time when our pool in Omaha would have been closed for the season. One happy camper!
Pool specifics for those that are curious:
- Saltwater Pool & Spa measuring approximately 12’x24′ (spa dimensions are 12’x5′ of that)
- Pebble Tec – Signature Matrix Coastal Blue
- Waterline Tile – NPT Tile Quarry Ridge, Blue Stone 6″x6″
- Pavers – FireRock pavers, Oyster color
- House and Cabana Paint Color – Sherwin Williams Greek Villa
I’m excited to add some color and personality to the space! Our backyard is rather small (and mostly consists of pavers), so I think some large planters filled with colorful plants will be perfect. I’m really hoping to fulfill my dreams of owning a few freeze-tolerant citrus plants too!
Our cabana fireplace came without an insert (still a sore subject -ha!) but I plan to reach out to a fireplace company soon so we can get it up and running. The gas lines are already run, it’s just a matter of finding an insert and having it installed. This TV actually came with our last house (it was hanging in the living room), and isn’t designed for outdoors, but we’ve used it quite a bit without issue. I think the roof helps protect it rather well. But this little spot, especially with the functioning fireplace, should be able to be used nearly year round!
It will be fun to see this area brought to life over the coming months!

Let’s jump to some of the plans I have for the space!
Amalfi Coast Inspired Pool and Cabana Design Plans
The moment I found these striped scalloped umbrellas in the light blue colorway, I couldn’t order them fast enough! I immediately started designing the entire space around them.
We’ve actually used the same umbrellas in the past (the white with black trim scalloped version) at our Omaha pool. We know we like the quality of the brand for the price, so when the perfect color combo paired with the scalloped profile was released. I had to get one!
Kurtis and my favorite place in the world is Italy, so knowing I wanted some potted citrus trees, striped umbrellas, and a potted olive tree, the plan kind of took off from there. Why not make it all inspired by the Amalfi Coast?! Amalfi with a Florida spin 😉
Here’s the pool and cabana design board I quickly put together over the weekend once I ordered the umbrella.

While I still plan to use these fluted planters in a few areas around the space, I also plan to find some really fun planters at a local shop, Maison 30A. I took my parents there yesterday only to find out they’re closed on Mondays. Oops! But I’ll be back to find the perfect large planters for both our porch and backyard. I want to get them finalized shortly so I can get them delivered, placed, and ready to go for planting season (which starts fairly early here). Here’s a peek at some of their selection from the last time I stopped by.
I think this project should be able to move fairly quickly over the next month or two! I likely won’t be able to plant some of the tropicals until early April, but other than that, the space should be ready for us to use this spring and all pool-season long!

Thanks Jessica! I think I’m going to have a hard time narrowing down my selection. They’re all SO good there!
