It’s the last Friday of the month which means it’s time to reveal our June Year of Change project. This month, you may remember that we teamed up with Lamps Plus {you can read more about the announcement of this project here}. They challenged us all to get out of our comfort zones and try out some of their new swag lights. Links to the other four projects are at the end of this post so you’ll want to be sure to check those out as well!
As I mentioned at the beginning of the month, I took this opportunity to completely redo my craft room/movie room/workout room {which in reality was our junk room}. The number one priority in the room was function. I still needed to be able to use the space for all the same reasons – just much more effectively. And if you’ve followed along this last month, you’ll see I’ve departed from both of my design plans again in the three weeks I’ve worked on the space 😉
I was still working on photos for this project this morning, so of course we had torrential rains and dark skies outside in lieu of the usual sunshine that pours in this space. Lots of tricky photography happening this morning but I think I was able to accurately capture the space color-wise. You’d think I’d learn my lesson on procrastination one of these days….. moving on!
Today, I’m going to focus on the overall room itself as well as the lighting. Then, I’ll plan to do some more in-depth tutorials next week for an item or two. So for now…the pictures!
For the main lighting, I selected a
The chaise lounge was perfect for the space. I needed to maximize floor space so we can still workout in here. I really only needed seating for one {plus the cats – hence the floor pillows} because if my husband and I watch movies jointly, it’s in the living room. Our workout equipment is stored in the seagrass baskets under the TV and our yoga mats are in the paint dipped basket to the right. You’ll notice I also painted the TV stand and painted all of the hardware on it with gold spray paint.
One of my favorite parts of the room is my sewing area.
Here it was three short weeks ago {you can also see the TV stand when it was black in this photo}:
And here is the space now. This swag light actually plugs in to any wall outlet {or has the option to be hardwired} and it was SO easy to hang. I was even able to do this one all by myself. 🙂 I love the task lighting this pendant provides and I love that I can easily raise or lower the light on the hook, depending on the amount of light I need. The inspiration pin board is also one of my favorite additions. I got the desk and ghost chair for free, thanks to some gift cards I had on hand. I still need to spray paint the mirror gold.
Love this little area now!
I couldn’t be happier with the way this space turned out!

Love this room, Sarah! Quick ? For you: what size were the Target frames and what size prints did you order? They are awesome!!!
Sorry about that! The art was 9×12 and the frames were the 14×18 which is matted to 8×10 {which Sarah Swanson recommended for the pieces in her listing}. Hope that helps!
Love the lighting Sarah! So unique, you’ve totally transformed another room into something really beautiful!
such a great transformation! love it!

The entire room is perfection. I love that four-light swag. I’m going to have to find a place for that in my home. Thanks also for listing what products you used ~ I wanted to know the color of the room and now I do!
Such a relaxing and tranquil room, I bet you get lost in there for hours 🙂
Beautiful room. The chaise is awesome!!
What an amazing transformation! I really like the desk area. Fab chair! And after doing some work there, I would totally curl up with a book on the chaise.
