A Few More Entryway Updates

Room Makeovers + Design Plans

The entryway can be an awkward place to decorate but today I am sharing with you a few of my entryway updates!

Entryway with bench and DIY canvas art.

On Friday, I shared my DIY Art as part of our Year of Change challenge. From the moment the artwork was hung, it looked lonely on this space in our long hallway. I had never wanted to add another table to the area because we already had one at the base of the stairs and further down the hallway. I found a bench at HomeGoods on my lunch break Friday and knew it was the perfect solution.  Once the bench was in place, I also knew I needed to add some throw pillows. Funny how these things go 😉

A wooden bench with a grey fabric cover and pillows on top of it.

The larger pillow is a pretty deep gray velvet with sisal braid trim. I actually picked a pair of them up at HomeGoods to use in the dining room but it filled the spot nicely for now. The other pillow is one I made on Sunday, using Quadrille China Seas’ Aga Brown on Tint linen fabric {following my easy throw pillow tutorial}. I have loved this versatile fabric for a long time {and have offered it up in many prior fabric sales}. I’ve never really had a use for it until now and I have found a lot of people steer clear of any brown-toned fabrics during my fabric sales. Sounds like you are all looking for grays. But, I am personally still a huge fans of patterns with brown {my office curtains for example} and wanted to show how well neutral browns and grays can pair, especially when mixing textures. I love this combination!

You’ll note that whenever I do a full room shot, the art always looks washed out. It is definitely much deeper/saturated and cloudier in real life – more like the photo below.

The bench and pillows are the perfect addition to this space. I’m finally starting to feel like the entryway as a whole is now starting to feel finished {the gray painted front door and prior table addition certainly helped as well}. And if you fear that they won’t get much use in our entryway hallway, I assure you they already have. In fact, this appears to be the new hottest space in all of our home!

Hi! I’m a new reader and first time commenter. I love your blog; we have very similar styles so it is fun to get ideas from you. I think it is fabulous that you talked about mixing grays and browns, and how people tend to shy away from brown. Gray is so popular on Pinterest that I over the last year I realized I had decorated my whole house in gray tones. While it looked pretty, I also noticed it looked cold. I never thought you could mix the two, but I started layering in brown tones through baskets, wood tones, and fabrics…and it looks great! It adds so much warmth and dimension. I would love to see more pictures of these combos….future blog post idea? 🙂 Thanks again for all the great inspiration!
