2010 street of dreams and famous dave’s

We went to the Omaha Street of Dreams {the Utah equivalent of the Parade of Homes} and it was a major disappointment.  This is an event I look forward to every year.  When I lived in Utah, my mom and I went to two or three Parade of Homes at minimum each year.  I always love checking out new architectural and design elements.  This year in Omaha, there were four houses.  I repeat.  Four houses ~ and they were all very disappointing.  So much so that I only took seven pictures – all at one house.  The 112 degree heat index didn’t help either.  And the fact the houses were spread out and you had to walk quite a ways to each one.  And tickets were $12 per person to get in.  Here is one of my few photos.  I really loved this dining room {but not necessarily all of the elements together – only individually}:  the grasscloth wallpaper, the amazing light, the hand-scraped wood table and chairs very similar to those I have had my eyes on with linen and nailhead trim {not so in love with the sculptures or art}.  Loved it – but honestly at this point I would have been impressed fairly easily since everything else was so terrible.

The husband said he felt like we were in Pompeii again with this stone path entrance {over their “river”} and the scorching heat.

Even worse, I had to bribe hubby to go with me and promised we could go to Famous Dave’s for dinner {his favorite, my not-so-favorite}.  For some reason the whole backwoods/white trash/hickville decor doesn’t really do it for me.  Thankfully the food is usually pretty good.

I’m pretty sure our waitress thought we were drunk given the fact that we {okay, me} were taking photos in Famous Dave’s like it was some high-class meal and the fact that when the husband ordered he pointed to the menu and said “I’ll have this bad-boy:”  She said she was certain that the meal had never been called that before.  I was worried he may not have enough food….

With this heat, you can tell our anniversary is only a few days away.  Hottest day ever!
