Behr Silver Drop Dining Room Reveal

Room Makeovers + Design Plans

Today we I’m revealing our Year of Change projects for January. Our challenge this month was to makeover a room or item using paint. As I mentioned early in the month, I didn’t expect to be able to share a full reveal of the dining room, simply due to the scale of the project I was tackling. And honestly, I got even less done that expect with travel and flu season getting in the way. But, today, I’m revealing our Behr Silver Drop dining room!

The paint color I ultimately decided upon was Behr Silver Drop. I ended up buying it without ever testing the color in person. I had done some research online and found images I loved. I also realized it is one color lighter on the paint deck from Behr Dolphin Fin (which we used as the stripe in our king guest bedroom and is also the color I have at 50% intensity in our master bathroom and mudroom). Behr Silver Drop is a great coordinating color for Behr Dolphin Fin, just slightly lighter! Although I still have remnants of the old paint color (Restoration Hardware Slate) showing through the dining room walls currently, I can tell the color is going to be exactly what I envisioned.

Regardless, today I am sharing the progress of the dining room so far – it already feels like a completely different space! The art has also arrived and I’m loving it so far with the new paint color. I am a long ways from being done but I am so happy with the literal glow that emanates from this room now!

Behr silver drop paint is exactly the color I wanted for our dining room makeover.

Here's how the dining room paint will look when contrasted with the kitchen island.

This is the dining room as seen from the kitchen with the new silver drop paint.

A couple things to note. 1) I know a lot of you thought I was crazy to redo this room, as you loved it as it stood. I get that, but please trust me. I know these images don’t explain a lot, but if it turns out like I hope, I think you’ll be on board! 2) The trim desperately needs to be painted. Once again, my pinkish not-white trim makes everything blue-toned. And while I would prefer a bluish gray paint, the trim is just over-bluifying everything. That’s not a word – but it also explains what I’m talking about. 3) My cats think my new rug is the newest addition to their toy collection. It has apparently become their challenge to un-weave as much of the rug as possible with their teeth (they don’t have claws). Cats 1 – Rug 0. Game on. 4) I hope to tackle the sanding of the buffet this weekend. 5) The kitchen cabinets are in the same camp as our trim. They need to be painted white, which will only help the overall look of this room.

If you need a reminder, you can see my full makeover plans in this post {it also contains the ‘before’ picture}. I plan to tackle the remainder of the wall paint this weekend and hope to even start trim painting. From there, I need to finalize my fabric selections for throw pillow and roman shades. I also need to purchase the light fixture (hopefully at a significant discount) and get an electrician to add spot for a chandelier.

Be sure to stop and check out the projects from the other talented ladies in the Year of Change group: Suburban Bees, Commona My House and Rosa Beltran Design. They all have some amazing projects in store for you as well! And, if you didn’t already do so, I would love for you to complete my reader survey (there’s also a giveaway included)! Have a wonderful weekend!

The “old” dining room was beautiful, but I love the lightness and brightness of this new paint!!!! I can’t wait to see the finished product, however I am enjoying the journey.

My husband painted our dinning room and living room Behr Silver drop last year and I love it. I also need to repaint the trim but haven’t decided on what shade of white to use, I’ll be interested to know what you use.

I live in Iowa and we bought a lake home last year, we are remodeling the interior Gray, White, and a splash of Teal.

I also loved the old dining room, it was stunning. But I am a huge fan of light blue/grey and know that this will be even more stunning. Can’t wait to see it!!

I think the color is perfect for your room. I happen to love Behr paint and use it in my own home.

I’m sure it will look amazing! What’s funny is that we used the color Silver Drop in our son’s nursery and we thought it was too light so we went out and bought Dolphin Fin to change it! The odds!
