Shades Up

Room Makeovers + Design Plans

We were able to hang the new roman shades on Sunday {Restoration Hardware Baby&Child’s Bordered Cotton Canvas Cordless Roman Shade}. They are not fully mounted yet {I wanted to save that portion until after I finish painting} but I already love how they look! Once they are mounted fully to the bracket, I can better mess around with getting each one the same length and fullness. But, I already love them!
You can also see the new fabric the arrived in each of these photos below. I’m still trying to decide if I make the Imperial Trellis or the Kelmscott Manor fabric as the euro sham {and which to make the throw pillow size}. Bonus – the blue Crate and Barrel velvet pillow I already had in the room looks great with the Kelmscott Manor!
This shot shows the shades fully up {which is likely not how I will leave them}. Also proof that I desperately need to find a new light for the room 🙂

With the shades slightly extended {my preferred length}

A shot from the bathroom doorway.

I would have preferred to have hung them slightly higher, but regardless, we were able to hang them about 7″ higher than the window {to make them appear taller} but yet fully extend the shade on the long window. They are equipped with a blackout lining and definitely make the room much darker when they are all pulled shut {helpful since this window faces a streetlight}.

Following is an updated before and after of the room. To see more on the board and batten go here. With each new progress shot, I am getting more and more happy!
Before and after guest bedroom with board and batten wall

Updated Queen Guest Room To-Do List:
  • Paint window trim
  • Paint baseboards
  • Paint door casings and doors
  • Board and batten wall behind bed
  • Find headboard {the DIY version no longer works with the board & batten}
  • Add seating to room
  • Find a larger bedside lamp {since the room can only accommodate one nightstand}
  • Order roman shades
  • Find drapes
  • Find fabric for throw pillows
  • Make throw pillows
  • Change out all the outlets/light switches to white
  • New chandelier to replace the boob light
  • Paint walls
  • Hang sunburst mirror

    Sarah – I had to laugh when I saw this photo since I have also had different fabrics draped across the accent pillows in our master bedroom for days! I’ve decided to use two of the fabrics for euros and an accent pillow, and another fabric for a coverlet at the foot of the bed – this might be a solution for you too! Perhaps the Kelmscott Manor for the accent pillows and the Imperial Trellis for a coverlet??? I love watching the progress of this room! Thanks for sharing!
