our attempt at a relaxing weekend

I really tried hard to be lazy yesterday, but after working so hard the last eight or ten weekends, it just felt wrong.

It was the Berkshire Hathaway {Warren Buffett’s company} shareholders meeting this weekend.  All that really means to me is that shareholders get huge discounts across town at companies that BH owns – Nebraska Furniture Mart {the country’s largest furniture store}, Borsheim’s {an incredible jewelry store}, Dairy Queen, etc.  Each year I make it my mission to mooch off someone’s shareholder pass.  The husband has an employee that had one and said we could borrow it for a few hours yesterday.

We headed to Nebraska Furniture Mart and got there right as they opened.  I had in my mind all sorts of things to buy.  Of course, we left empty-handed….the only thing that interested me were some dining chairs that were $299 a piece {I wanted six} and they were $244 at shareholder price.  I would have bought them on the spot but the husband about died and said no way.

So, we then returned the pass and decided to go out for a drive and just look at neighborhoods to get landscaping ideas and just look at beautiful lots.  We ended up in a beautiful area called The Sanctuary – we never even knew it existed {most of the lots cost as much as our house}. It is a few miles out of town and is beautiful {especially for Omaha}.  I wish I would have had my camera – the entrance is AMAZING – waterfalls, limestone, trees, hills and situated on the Elkhorn River.  Loved it.

My need for laziness was satiated.  We got home around two and I felt like I was the laziest person EVER.  Especially since we will be in Denver next week and we won’t get any work done.  Our house is a disaster zone right now between our projects on the island, entryway, etc.

So, I broke out the paint cans and started painted the living room and kitchen.  The husband started to feel guilty at that point and cleaned up the house some.  Here is the before and some durings + afters.  The brighter and longer the days were getting, the paint was looking more and more yellow to me and I was really starting to hate it.

You can really see the differences in paint colors in this next shot.  The new paint is Behr’s Nile Sand {same as I painted the entryway, bonus room and staircase}.  I would lovingly call it ‘greige’ ~ a perfect mix of gray and beige.

Hawkeye and Henley “helping”.  I think they have spent  an hour or two playing on the ladder since we brought it out yesterday.  They are actually rather talented at going up and down this thing.  Apparently wrestling and chasing each other is much more fun on a ladder.

And I know you all think I am insane since I just finished repainting the entire main level in the fall.  But I actually enjoy painting and love how it can so easily change the mood in your home.  I promise it will be the last color I paint in the living room for a long time.

Today, I finished the second coat of paint {although with the amazing Behr Ultra Plus paint w/primer I may not have needed it}.  As you can see, I still have to paint the long wall with all the windows but it is so nice knowing I only have that one wall left! {I painted up to the first window and curtains so that I could wrap up the area behind the TV and not have to move it again}.

Today the hubby got the gate pathway completed on the north side of our house {to match this one} and cleaned up the areas/mulch around our trees. The weather was beautiful and it was a great day to work outside {until the downpour started in the afternoon}.  He then was able to do a much-needed cleaning of our garage {its amazing how much sawdust and boards had accumulated thanks to all of our little projects}.
I found out I have a small problem with the rabbits gnawing on my hosta.
I also wrapped up most of this fabric project but need hubby’s help on hanging it ~ we are kind of stumped on that part.  So stay tuned ~ maybe we will have an epiphany later today and still get it done.

It was a great mix of a weekend:  some fun and some work {and it was nice to work on something other than our wall for once!}  After I let the paint dry for a few days I can put the room back together and be done!  I feel much better about leaving town next weekend now {okay, I wouldn’t have really felt that bad leaving, but it will be nice to come home with a lot less work to do!}

And now that it is 3 o’clock I think it is time to relax {i.e. blogstalk and find other projects we can try around our house!} 🙂
