Today I want to welcome Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog. For those that don’t know Abby, she is one of the sweetest gals out there – not to mention she has some killer DIY projects and might be the most organized person I know. You’ll see she also happened to paint her TV stand the same color {Country Chic Paint’s Midnight Sky} as our guest bathroom vanity.  Abby also hosts a link party every Tuesday night. Be sure to visit her blog and say hi!

Five Fabulous Furniture Makeovers

Hello, Life on Virginia Street readers! I’m Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog where I write about everything from home decor and organization to DIY and crafts. I am so honored that the sweet and super talented Miss Sarah asked me to come visit while she is away! I love a good furniture transformation, so I thought I’d pull out five of my favorites to share with you today. Most of these pieces started out rough to say the least, but it’s amazing how a little bit of paint can really help to bring an old, worn-out piece back to life.

1. The Racing-Striped Dresser Racing-Striped Dresser Before

This dresser was part of my oldest son’s nursery set, but when we set out to create a shared big boy room for both of our sons, I knew this piece would need an update. The nice thing about this transformation was that I didn’t even need to paint the entire dresser. We just taped off some racing stripes, painted them a bold orange (Behr’s Pumpkin Patch), and painted the knobs white, and it looked like a completely different piece!

2. The Trash-to-Treasure Chair
Trash-to-Treasure Chair Before

This old chair belonged to my parents and was headed for the trash, but I loved its shape so much I just had to rescue it! I painted over it with Behr’s Swan Sea and used my Silhouette machine to create a pretty floral design on the seat. If it wasn’t for the distinctive shape, you wouldn’t even know it was the same chair!

3. The Hand-Me-Down Trunk Hand Me Down Trunk Before

This trunk was the first big project I did with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. We had inherited it from my in-laws after we got married, but after years and years of use, it had certainly seen better days! I covered it with a few coats of Pure White and hand painted the aqua details. After a little bit of distressing and some finishing wax, it was looking much better than its humble “before” shot!

4. The Dresser-Turned-TV Stand Dresser-Turned-TV Stand Before

I was in search of a new TV stand for our living room when I came across this beauty on Craigslist for only $40! The finish was very, very worn, and the veneer was chipped in a few spots, but I knew it had amazing potential! After giving it a little TLC and using wood filler to fix some of the chipping, I used Country Chic Paint’s Midnight Sky to turn the old dresser into a bold and blue statement piece for our space. I gave the hardware a few light coats of gold spray paint to complete the transformation.

5. The Rescued Pegboard Rescued Pegboard Before

Ok, so I may have cheated a little bit on this one. Is a pegboard technically furniture? I use it to store things, so I vote “yes” for all intents and purposes. 😉 This pegboard was in an old building that had been donated to my parents’ non-profit, and it was another piece I rescued from the trash. It was not pretty when I first picked it up and looked more like it belonged in a utility shed than in my fabulously feminine home office, but after a few coats of Behr’s Rosy Lavender and a brand new frame, it fit right in! I couldn’t have asked for cuter craft supply storage! 😀

So there you have it– five fabulous furniture makeovers! I love that just a small investment in paint and a few hours (okay, sometimes more than a few… 😉 of time can result in an entirely transformed piece! Thanks again to Sarah for having me on her blog today, and thank YOU for reading! I’d love to have you over for a visit to Just a Girl and Her Blog, or you can also follow along on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Google+. Hope to see you there! Have a great day!
