Gifts That Make A Difference

Christmas, Gift Ideas

I’ve shared several gift guides and ideas over the past few weeks, but today I want to share gifts that make a difference.

Each year, my husband and I support a cause for Christmas. Typcially, we sponsor three or four children at church in our local Project Angel Tree. This year, however, we were out of town when the angels were available for selection and (thankfully), they go quickly so we had to find a new cause to support.

This year, we have decided to give gifts through CARE. CARE is a global humanitarian organization that fights poverty by empowering girls and women. You can gift everyday items that may all-to-often be taken for granted by most of us, but mean the world to those in need. I love this site because you can also give a gift in someone’s honor. Perfect for that person on your list that has everything and wants nothing.

On the CARE site, you can purchase everything from family kits for emergency survivors ($65) to a 3-month supply of emergency drinking water ($30) to scholarships to attend secondary schools ($143) to a goat ($45) to providing a water tap in a school ($70.20) to a month’s supply of food ($28) and so much more! You can even do a full, half or quarter donation for the items listed! All to help those in need. If you’re not sure what items are most needed, you can also just provide a ‘quick gift’, which is essentially a cash donation.

What a special opportunity for individuals, businesses, and families to help share the spirit of Christ this Christmas season!

I would encourage you to read some of the personal stories on the site. Granted, CARE helped 90 million people last year, but sometimes it is that one story that touches your heart and really connects you to the cause. It’s a bit hard to not tear up when you see how something little we can provide can make such a lasting impression and change in someone else life!

Do you and your family have a special charity and/or program you help support during the holiday season? I’d love to share how you share the gift of love!

Thank you to CARE.org for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to give a #GiftofLastingChange!

Thank you for sharing this great cause. It is such a small amount of money to us but can go a long way to help someone else. I’m looking into it right now.

This is amazing! You actually got me inspired to contact my entire family about this – I’m going to try to get them on board to donate these types of items in each other’s names!

We do winter wishes at school. This year we got to pick up a warm blanket and sheets for one family, and a few outfits for another family. I love this idea… thanks for sharing!

I had no idea you could do this! We are blessed to be a blessing and this is a wonderful way to make an impact and bless others – and such a little amount can do so much good. Thanks for sharing.
