We have been needing some new drapes in our living room ever since the old ones didn’t match the new furniture.  After searching site after site, I could not find anything I liked for under $80 per panel (and I needed four)!  Obviously not going to happen.  We have 9 foot ceiling and I wanted something that started at the ceiling and billowed on the floor slightly, so it needed to be 110″.

I was at the fabric store the other day, and found some great fabric at $2.49 a yard that looked a lot like linen.  I had a 40% off coupon that covered one full cut (so it was only $1.49 a yard).  15 yards later, I had spent about $4.50 per drape panel and have a few yards left over if I ever want to make coordinating pillow or a curtain in the kitchen.

Given the raw texture of the fabric, I decided to literally just cut each panel 110″ and hang them as is and the same width as the bolt of fabric.  I then folded the top of the drapes about 1″ and just clipped it to the drapery rod.  SO EASY!  So, for under $20 total for the set, I present my new drapes.  They MAYBE took me 10 minutes to do.  Not the fanciest but they are much better than $80 per panel!  I may sew some hems next time my mom is in town, but honestly I think they look pretty amazing as is.  {Sorry for the bad pictures – the sun reflecting off the piles of snow still on our backyard was not a good combo}.
They tend to bring out the yellow tones in the wall, but I’m okay with it for now.  I have a vision of how everything will someday look, but it will be a long road!

The bulk of our weekend was spent working on our hallway project again {and I did more painting on the staircase}.  I changed the top color of paint to the color {Behr Ultra Nile Sand} I have in the bonus room  and the staircase {since I had the paint out and it is only a three foot high area} and I am much happier with how it looks.  All the white was making the other paint look REALLY yellow and rather bright.  Here is a glimpse of the much more subdued paint along with the ledge installed in this area.  We still have a few weeks left, but it is moving along!

The next photos show the other areas with the old paint {and no ledge yet}.  Keep in mind all the white areas are basically only primed at this point.  We have many coats of paint to go to get it to be its true color!
At this point, I love it so much that I am trying to convince the husband that we need to wrap it into the living room area.  By the time we finally finish the entry way I may have him actually considering it {hopefully}!
