Dumpster Day

Cleaning and Organization Tips

The husband has a pattern of saving scrap wood pieces from various projects “in case we need it some day.” Unfortunately, when you go to move, those small piles of wood turn into a big mess too big for the city trash cans and too big of a pain to take with you. Granted, I had a thing or two to get rid of {stuff not suitable for Goodwill}. So, on Friday, we had a 8x4x6 dumpster delivered to our house for 125 bucks.  It’s a two week rental but we basically needed it to empty items from the garage and basement – one weekend tops.

Here’s what the garage looked like – see all that fun stuff bungee-corded to the walls?:

Two hours later and we were done. Unfortunately it was so cold out, I didn’t get any after shots of the garage because we wanted to hurry and pull our cars back in, but we sure did a great job of filling that dumpster! The walls in the garage are virtually bare now. Keep in mind that bad boy dumpster is four feet tall – we almost filled it! {And for all you worriers out there – we did not throw away any energy-efficient bulbs which we know isn’t safe – just the boxes}. And can you believe we had two vintage VCR’s to get rid of?

Wait until you see the load we have to take to the disposal place for paint/fertilizers/etc. I’ll fully take the blame for the 20+ paint cans of old colors we have to properly dispose of {we are leaving all extra cans of the current paint colors with the new homeowners}. I will say this was a great use of $125. I can’t even imagine cutting all of this wood down to leave in our garbage can over a month window.

I also got most of our kitchen packed away while hubby was still outside breaking down cardboard boxes.  The good news is, we have peanut butter, honey, soup + Hawkeye to eat over the next week 😉

And a little glimpse of our holiday decorating hidden between the boxes. You’ll notice that I have had to break into several of the kitchen boxes to get things I still needed out.  The pains of actually cooking once in awhile! Bad timing by me.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

No way . . Hawkeye was in a cupboard. 🙂 He is a cutey!

And I am looking forward to making a “contribution” to the dumpster after work today. 🙂 Doesn’t it feel great to “Good Will” what you can and get rid of what you can’t? I still have one more Good Will run to make this year. And I need to make a run to Under the Sink too.

    Looks like a productive weekend!
