We have those glass cube windows in our master bathroom and I have never fully believed that they shield outsiders from looking in. Especially since our next door neighbor’s kitchen window is at the same level. Every morning I do everything I can in hopes that no one can see me through the window.
I have always loved the look of roman shades but they are very expensive because they typically have to be custom made to fit your window. I followed these directions from Jenny @ Little Green Notebook. Honestly, I didn’t believe Jenny when she said there are $3.99 mini-blinds at Target, but sure enough, there they were when I rolled up last night, in a perfect size match for the window {in looking at the photos I am wishing I had maybe gone with one size wider}.
These are VERY easy to make {I finished the whole thing while watching Glee}. The worst part was actually hanging them {the husband had to redo it tonight since I did it wrong last night – it was really hard for me to reach the top of our nine foot ceilings with a step stool and couldn’t quite remember how to use our drill}. But, I LOVE how they turned out and the privacy they grant. The fabric {a heavy but sheer white weave} was a remnant so I paid $3.50 a yard {it required 2 yards}, the fabric glue was $5 {and I have tons left to use for other projects} and the blinds were $3.99. This project was a bargain in my mind and I can’t wait to improve my skills on other windows! I think they will actually start to drape better over time {with gravity} since the fabric is so heavy and stiff. I love that light can still come in but we can still have privacy too!
