In an effort to make our home feel more “custom” we are trying to add architectural details that are lacking.  One thing we have been focusing on lately is how to add some built-ins to our living areas.  My main area of focus is in our living room.  I would like to have built-ins extend out to the wall the fireplace is on.

Current space {old picture but you can at least see the area I am talking about}:

Ideas {all from decorpad}:

We are going to start small though and begin with this area in the bonus room.  And yes, this side of the room pretty much ALWAYS looks this messy {hence the need for built-ins}.

We are hoping to find some kitchen/bathroom cabinets that will fit in the space that we can then modify to give that “custom” feel to.  It would also really help clean up all the random junk in the room since we have no defined storage in the area currently.
I finally got the husband to crack on considering hardwood floors {after I raised enough funds to pay for them}.  He had heard about Lumber Liquidators on Extreme Makeover Home Edition and they are about half the price of Lowe’s and other retail stores.  Now we just have to pick the one we like best {I definitely have my favorite already and for once it is not the most expensive choice}!  I just need to determine if it is best to get the floors or start working on finishing the basement…

I personally prefer to remove all existing skirting, lay the flooring, then install new skirting. Gives a much nicer finish that makes the flooring look more like it was always part of the room.
