Board and Batten {With a Twist}

Room Makeovers + Design Plans

I wanted to give a little sneak peak of the project we started this weekend. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen a few quick shots of our progress, but here is a preview of the board and batten we installed in our queen guest bedroom. Read more about why I chose to work on this room here.

As a reminder, here is the space before:

Saturday afternoon, I put a quick coat of Behr Ulta {paint plus primer} Swiss Coffee on the walls. As a reminder, this is the color I am gradually painting all of our trim. I feel like the white paint alone made a huge impact in toning down the warm saturation in this room.

And, how the room looks now {although I started caulking all the seams after this picture was taken – which makes it look even better!}. The boards were pre-primed but don’t have any paint on them, so once the caulking and nail filling is done, I will put another coat of paint over the whole thing.

I am so excited with how this wall turned out. I found very few inspiration photos for board and batten laid out in a full wall grid pattern. So I had to wing it and just do the math for the size of wall we had – and I love the non-traditional spin on this technique. And my husband did a great job helping me fulfill the vision! We were both surprised how quickly this project went after installing board and batten in the entryway/hallways/living room in our last home – which took forever. This went quickly and smoothly and we both enjoyed working on a project like this together.

I will provide a tutorial for this project once the room is complete. But even in these preliminary stages, I am already giddy and have a huge grin on my face each time I walk past this room. The search for pillow fabric and accessories has intensified given how much great progress we made this weekend! I’m also brainstorming ideas where we can add more wall treatments like this to add some character in our home!

    It is looking great! I am a huge fan of white woodwork and have some floor to ceiling board and batten walls in my own home. I can’t wait to see the finished space.
