Blue and White Concrete Tile

Decorating Ideas, Tips and Trends

The more I’ve been considering our kitchen remodel plans lately, the more I’m worried everything will feel a bit sterile. White on white on grayish-white. I know the look is timeless {and one I’ve loved virtually my whole life} but I’m thinking it may be fun to add a little more personality to the space in the form of the backsplash.

For whatever reason, I started thinking about blue and white tiles – in more of a matte concrete finish. I’m thinking more a pale/grayish blue than some of these saturated cobalt images. I have a picture in my head as to what I’m thinking of, but now I’m just trying to see if it actually exists. Following are some pretty blue and white concrete tiles I’ve found, but to be honest, it seems like the selection out there is pretty few and far between!

Blue and white concrete tile with many different patterns.
{White and Blue Novecento Tiles}

{White and Blue Tapestry Tiles}
.White and Blue Tile with Green Cabinets from House & Home. I love the way this blue and white pattern looks with the countertops.

Here is a whole wall of blue and white concrete tile. I'm not sure I want to take it this far by covering all the wall space in patterned tile. But I love the hardwood cabinets!

This blue and white tile backsplash has such a unique and fun pattern. I also love the blue cabinets.

These blue and white patterned tile are hand painted! Can you believe how beautiful they are? I also love that it is just a small amount of the overall decor.
{via Ardesia Design – link includes a gorgeous home tour as well as more shots of this hand-painted tile}

This site has a ton of cool options but I’m not able to see many images of the tiles used in actual spaces so it  makes me a little nervous. I am also loving these colored Arabesque and Scale tiles – maybe in Aqua?

Another option would be to go the route of a neutral pattern like the backsplash I showed in this post. Below is another image along those lines. Classic materials with a unique pattern/design.

I like that the colors here are more traditional, but the tile backlash is in a unique pattern.
{via Exquisite Kitchen Design}

I realize many of these could appear trendy or get old after living with them for a few years, so I am still weighing the pros and cons. One thing I do know is that I am a little more willing to have fun with the backsplash {and replace it if necessary 10 years down the road} than I would be with countertops or cabinets, which are a much bigger investment.

Last night I was driving home from work and saw this image on Instagram via Shea McGee and knew I was on to something. I’m really considering a non-traditional tile at this point.

Here are some of the non-traditional tiles I'm loving right now! Blue and white concrete tile, round tile, metal tile.

So, are you a fan of these unique blue and white concrete tile combinations or would you prefer to go the timeless route?

    I think that blue and white tile IS timeless, so even though it’s not a traditional backsplash idea, I say go for it. And won’t it look great with some ginger jars or transferware plates?!

    This is a beautiful idea Sarah, and it would go great in your home! While it is still unique, blue and white is also timeless in my opinion, so it would be both. I especially love #3, #4 and #7 since they’re more muted…I’ve long had #7 saved too 😉 Personally, I would either go more dramatic in the shape of the tile or in the pattern, but not both. I’m drawn to shape over pattern, dramatic-shaped tile just does it for me, hence the love for #7. And oh man, those in the lower left of Studio McGee’s… swoon!

    You should check out Sunderland Bros in town. I used to be their marketing coordinator, they have a showroom that’s open to the public and beautiful handcrafted Winchester Tile line from England that has Blue and White patterns. I used to stare at them dreamily all day. 😉

      I JUST saw an ad for them in a local magazine and thought about driving over immediately. I’ll definitely check them out! xoxo

    I’d have to really love blue to make it such a “hard to change my mind” fixture in the kitchen. I personally love having a more neutral kitchen that I can change up with colorful towels and other accent pieces when the seasons change or a holiday comes. But if blue is a neutral for you and you think you can incorporate that color in all-year-round to how you decorate then it might be an option for you.

    I read this part over again and got a chuckle…”Last night I was driving home from work and saw this image on Instagram”. Instagramming and driving, haha:) Though shalt not decorate and drive!

    All kidding aside, my favorite is the first, and the hand painted tiles from Ardesia Design. I think all of these looks are gorgeous! If you are afraid of the commitment, maybe you could do an accent, like behind a vent hood?

        That’s almost as bad as Pinterest-ing and driving. I would NEVER do that:)

    I know what you mean about it all being too sterile- I have worried about the same thing myself in our kitchen reno. I was toying with some ideas about mixing it up with a coloured hood fan, but tile would be amazing too (unfortunately I already bought like a zillion pallets of white subway tile, lol…). I love your favourite choice as well as the bottom one from Exquisite Kitchen Design. Good luck with the decision (it is hard, isn’t it?!?).

    I hear you, I fall in love with a style and come 3 years later, it’s trendy and EVERYWHERE, and then I get tired of it, regardless of it’s timelessness. I hear you about the kitchen 100%. I am afraid that if I go with what I truly love and have forever, it will look played out because it can be found everywhere this minute. I’d go bold with clean lines, I love the bottom right tile shown in the last example. It would look sharp and clean and it isn’t found in every article, etc. especially paired with truly loved and classic cabinets and countertop colors. Its okay if your “classic” has a personality. Go for it!
