The husband had noticed a dead circle of grass in our backyard last week and I assumed he had spilled some gas from the mower there.  Today he went to clean it up and the pile started moving…and there was a lot of fur in it…and there were tiny little “things” burrowed in the ground in a hole.
Turns out our little rabbit “friend” {yes, the same one that eats my plants all winter and may or may not be related to the one I accidentally ran over with the lawn mower two years ago} buried its kids in a hole it dug in our lawn.  We assume they are bunnies.  But right now they look like the ugliest litle things ever and are rather unidentifiable.  We know there are at least two crammed into this tiny hole and one turned its face to us {the eyes are still closed} and we think it sort of looks like a bunny.  Thoughts?  Hopefully it doesn’t morph into something much more terrifying!  Although, bunnies do kindof freak me out.
Here is the best shot I could get {you can see the top of one of the heads}.  And don’t worry ~ we then re-covered them {with gloves} with the mom’s fur that was there and the dead grass so hopefully she won’t know we disturbed them.  I’m just glad the husband saw them and we didn’t have another “incident” with the lawn mower.  I am sure I will be ready to hunt them down with a beebee gun in another year or two when they eat my plants, but for now, they can stay 🙂
We also had bright blue robin eggs in a nest on our pergola until the evil starlings decided to kick the eggs out onto our deck {making them splat everywhere} and make the nest their own.  I  had to talk the husband out of teaching them a lesson because he wanted to do the same thing to their brown speckled egg…
And in other exciting outdoor news, the temp was in the high 80’s today and yesterday.  We got more replacement trees yesterday {we had three more die this winter} but more on that to come later.  The major plus was that I got some sun {finally} driving around on the back of the golf cart at Lanoha’s while looking for trees!  And, I finally got some geranium planters this past week at the grocery store for $12.  Yay for summer!
