arrival day

Our new furniture arrived today. It is much larger than we expected but I think it looks great!

Unfortunately, the day did not go well. Long story short, when the guys were setting up the furniture, Hawkeye was on top of our cabinets because he gets scared when people are here. He somehow fell into that little hole (and by little, I mean 3″ wide – we measured) between the wall and cabinets where they put a filler board. See photos for details (I think the photo with the fridge best puts it in perspective – he was in that tiny section between the wall and the door of the cabinet where the wood changes).

The more he struggled the more he fell and he was a wadded up mess by the time I got to him after hearing his yelps and squeals. I couldn’t get him out and was freaking out – he had fallen down so far that I couldn’t reach my arm down the hole even when I was standing on the fridge. One of the delivery guys climbed on top of the fridge and was able to pull him out by his hind legs. It was a total mess (he wet himself because he was so scared – Hawkeye, not the delivery guy) and my heart was beating like crazy. What seemed to take an hour was probably about a four minute window of time. I then had to give Hawkeye a bath, etc. before I could go back to work but I was just sick about it all day. Needless to say, I suck in tense situations.

Tonight Kurtis had to rig some covers for that hole and another similar one so we wouldn’t have the same problem in the future. I had to clean the walls and cabinets. Therefore, we haven’t had a chance to actually arrange the furniture – it is basically where the delivery guys left it. So, as exciting as the new furniture is, I am much happier about Hawkeye being okay. Poor little Hawkie man.

It was probably the worst and best day every of my life all rolled into one 😉
