In January, I shared some modern coastal dining chair options, as well as some thoughts on the current state of our dining room. I’m circling back on that post today with a fun look for less for the chair I was most interested in, as well as some additional thoughts and update progress. I haven’t actually made any further decisions at this point, but this look for less is pushing me to reconsider our options. I thought some of you may be interested in this find, as well!

Tayabas Cane Chair Look for Less Options
I first fell in love with the Tayabas Cane Side Chair when I saw it in this dining room. I know it’s not a look everyone loves, but I think it could work well in our dining room.
Last time I chatted about it, I mentioned we were looking for an option that felt less formal than our current linen chairs. I know there was some concern about pool water on the cane, but usually our guests that are still wet sit outside at the table just outside our dining room. My biggest concern was the price tag (and it sold out rather quickly after I found it, making my decision easy). However, it has now been fully re-stocked and I’ve stumbled upon a great look for less. I get such a thrill from finding similar options for a fraction of the price! I still haven’t decided if this is the route I’ll go, but given that I’ve found an option that’s almost half the price of the original, I’m very tempted! Here’s what I was able to find. The prices were accurate on all items as of the time of this post date but can be subject to change.

Oddly enough, the lookalike with the cushion is actually the more affordable option. The main difference I see (other than the cushion) is that it has a slightly less swoopy back than the more expensive look for less. Otherwise, it’s a great way to get the look for almost half price! The cushion could also be a great way to protect the cane, as well (although I’d likely recover it so it isn’t black).
And for those that may not love the white and cane look, this option actually comes in four finishes!
An Update on Our Dining Room
Circling back to our dining room. As I mentioned in the post in January, we still really love our linen dining chairs. A lot! But the reality is the room maybe gets used two or three times a year, and it’s our only dining space. The room feels a bit too formal for our rather casual lifestyle. I also think our guests can feel intimidated with the linen and they’ll either headed outdoors to eat (weather permitting) or sit at our counter in the kitchen. So the search continues for an alternative seating option. I’ve also strongly considered this chair in the space, as well. I may do a mix and leave two of the linen chairs, as well. To be honest, I’m still really undecided!

If you love the elements of our dining room but are looking for more affordable alternative, I shared this dining room look for less post in May that you may be interested in!

One of the best updates we’ve made to our dining room over the past year is adding this cabinet. We added it last fall with the intention of it being used all summer long for our pool “gear”. I’m happy to report that it’s been functioning exactly as we had hoped! The drawer stores away all of our testing kits, three remotes, etc. The lower section stores some dining room essentials but also holds our outdoor portable speakers and chargers as well as our basket full of sunscreen! It’s been the perfect addition to the space!
I’m trying not to rush my decision (not always an easy task for me). We’re really in no hurry to make these changes, but I would love to be able to enjoy this room more for the remainder of summer and into early fall. I’ll keep you posted if we make any further decisions! The decor literally looks the exact same now as it did in January, so I’m hoping to add a few summer details over the next week or two, as well.
I hope you enjoyed this look for less find!

Love the chairs but only concern would be if they still slide under table like your linen chairs do. The linen ones are so nice but understand your desire to be more useful.

If you did the look for less cushioned chair in a Sunbrella fabric the wet swimsuits wouldn’t really be an issue. And Sunbrella offers so many gorgeous fabrics it would give you lots of choices. Just a thought.

I love that idea! I’m a huge fan of Sunbrella fabrics too!
