We moved into our second home in the fall of 2007. It was a semi-custom home build but we kept things fairly basic during the build. I was still in graduate school at the time, and although I had specific decor taste on some items, for the most part, we kept paint and other items very neutral at build time. This home was where I had a lot of DIY experience because I really hadn’t defined my style at the time. The reality was I like nearly all styles and tried them all, even if they weren’t “mine”. My husband constantly joked that we were rapidly losing square footage because I had painted the walls in each room so many times. Seriously – nearly every room had painted three times in the five years we lived there. But, by the time we moved out, we had definitely made the home much more “us” and we were actually very sad to say goodbye when we moved out!
