I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving! It is time for our November Year of Change projects! This month, we were challenged to work on a guest bedroom refresh in our home. Perfect timing as many of us were expecting company and knew we had to whip the spaces into shape.
This month, I decided to focus on our main guest bedroom {not to be confused with this guest bedroom}. I call this room our ‘main’ guest bedroom because it has the larger bed and is where people sleep when we actually do have guests. And it’s my nap room 😉
The truth is, I haven’t ever loved this room ever since I ‘finished’ it {you can read the specifics of the makeover here} – hence the reason I have yet to finish the other two euro shams. Don’t get me wrong – it’s come a long ways since we first moved in:
The room looks pretty but ultimately I’ve decided it just really isn’t my style and doesn’t fit with the rest of our house. I’ve been wracking my brains on how to subtly change it {ideally without having to paint over the stripes that took for.ever}, but I’m kinda stuck.
Rather than force a design decision to be made this month, I decided to focus on something else.  One of the biggest issues with this guest bedroom was actually the bathroom it is connected to. Here’s the proof…
This is pretty much always life behind the scenes in our house. Â Just keepin’ it real here peeps. Obviously this bathroom had become the dumping grounds for all the junk leftover from my craft room makeover. That’s right – since June. I had reached my breaking point and actually dealt with all of the crap. The boxes were literally 100% full of scrapbook paper I haven’t used in at least five years. There were paint cans, fabric swatches, shirts used for waxing furniture, a paint tray and roller that had dried up months ago. It was a total mess.
So, although I didn’t actually makeover anything in this room, in my mind, the simple act of cleaning {and actually dealing with the items} felt like a huge improvement! Total cop-out, I know, but it makes me feel a million percent better.
It still desperately needs a fresh coat of paint {one of the minor changes needed} but it feels so much better in my mind. You can see my long-term ideas for the space in this post.
I’ll continue to contemplate the changes that need to be made in the bedroom itself, but like I said, it’s good for now while I finish the mudroom and likely move on to the dining room after that.

Did you leave your ceiling the standard white? Also, I am just doing an accent wall (behind the bed) in stripes. Would you do the other 3 walls in the Swiss Coffee or Dolphin Fin? I would appreciate your opinion, thanks!
Yes – I just left my ceiling. As far as the other walls go, I think either color would work well. It just depends on if you like the light look or would like a little more color. I personally would have done the Dolphin Fin in our house for the other three walls if I just did an accent wall, but like I said, I think either would look great!
