I mentioned yesterday how crafty I was feeling this weekend. Not only did I complete TWO of the DIY Christmas Chalkboards, we made some serious progress in our king guest bedroom makeover! I’ll share more on that later this week.
Today I want to share some throw pillows I made. I picked up a plaid tablecloth at Homegoods in a pattern/color-scheme I loved. I also found some faux fur at Hancock Fabric that was 50% off plus I had an additional 15% off coupon, so I got a yard for around $13 {which will make three 18×18 throw pillows with fur on both the front and back}.
I used the same method for sewing the pillows as I described here in my full tutorial. With the zippered bottom, I can easily re-use the pillow forms to switch out seasonally as the decor changes.
Unfortunately, the tablecloth I grabbed was oblong {not rectangular as I thought}. So, I had enough for only one and a half pillows. The fur was a disaster to work with. I think it was slightly too thick for my machine and it shed everywhere. But I did love the end results. A little over an hour later and I had two new throw pillows {with three more already cut out}!
The point of this post is to remind you that you can make throw pillows out of any fabric you love: tableclothes, napkins, shower curtains, placements, etc. Just because it currently takes a different form doesn’t mean you can’t use it for something more practical. And yes, throw pillows are practical.
I plan to temporarily use these in the guest bedroom makeover until I finalize the color scheme there. My in-laws are coming to stay with us this weekend, so I thought it would be fun to add a little Christmas cheer to the room while they’re here. Stay tuned later this week for more detail on those updates and to see the second Christmas chalkboard I made!
