Pillow Party

DIY Projects

This weekend I was able to make 5 pillows and it became a real pillow party!

Saturday I was able to make five pretty pillows. Granted, it took me the entire day to make the three euro shams and two throw pillows but they have been on my ‘to do’ list for a while.  It is nice to finally have them done! I’m not sold that these will stay in the master bedroom {if not, they will move to guest bedroom #2}.  I ended up using 27″ euros and 20″ throw pillows – the exact sizes I happened to already have on hand from our old bedding set and I love how they turned out.

Bedroom with striped walls, white bedding, blue and gray pillows and chandelier.

I have tried a few different methods for sewing pillows and the tutorial from Casa Brasi is by far the easiest I have found. Updated to add: the tutorial site has since been closed down. But, you can still see my DIY throw pillow tutorial. I love the zippers as well for ease of stuffing {so much easier than envelope backs}. My sewing skills are remedial at best, so I am sure if this tutorial can work for me, it will work for anyone with very basic sewing skills.

Floral and graphic pillows in soft hues on the neutral bed with a mirror hanging above it.

The fabric used on the euro sham is Windsor Smith’s Kravet Pelagos in Mist.  The front pillows are Celerie Kemble’s Schumacher Hot House Flowers in Mineral.  This is one of the easiest fabrics I have ever sewn with {I believe it is 100% linen}. I know the Spark colorway is much more popular which is probably my least favorite – I also love Verdance, but I prefer this calming color scheme for the bedroom. Honestly, I haven’t found a Schumacher fabric I haven’t loved yet – Betwixt and Imperial Trellis both come from this maker. Still need to find a way to incorporate the Betwixt from the design board – probably in a long lumbar pillow.

Five pillows on the bed three large and two smaller ones.

Hardest part of this project? Actually making the bed.  I have the hardest time getting our duvet to lay smoothly.  Plus I really don’t know how to style beds either.  I may have to do research on that one! If you’re not interested in making your own pillow or want info on other sources in the room, see below!

I love the fabrics you chose and I love your bed styling. I wish we could copy and past real life objects because I would copy your bedroom and paste it into mine….I feel clueless when it comes to decorating our bedroom. Great job!
