Today I’ve teamed up with an amazing group of bloggers, hosted by Amber from Restless Arrow, to bring our 2016 back to school style guide. We’ve each put our own little spin on what ‘back to school’ means to us, whether it involves shopping, organization, or scheduling (or a combination of these).
Even though we don’t have kids, back to school time was always a favorite of mine. It meant my brother and I were each giving our annual clothing allowance to spend as we saw fit. I always felt like I won the lottery with my $250 budget 😉 Since back to school also symbolizes a change in seasons, I feel like it also still has an air of excitement for adults (or at least me). Granted, I’m always sad to see summer go, but I do love fall – even if it signals the coming of winter.
Today, I’ve rounded up a few categories of fun items for fall!
In terms of home decor, I usually swap out my throw pillows and change up my color scheme a bit. I always add in some additional textures to our decor with throws, leather accents and extra baskets. Anything that feels warm and cozy, right down to the candles I burn. Since I’m working on my home office refresh right now (I’ll be posting the mood board Thursday!), I haven’t focused on fall fabrics yet for the living area but I’m leaning towards navy and a rich gold/brown? Here are a few looks I’m loving. Click any of the images below to learn more about each item (you may have to double-click on mobile).
In terms of clothing, the following are items I’ve already purchased or plan to purchase before fall starts! Â I think you can tell pretty quickly my clothing color palette changes quite a bit in the fall. Rich jewel tones all the way!
Back to school typically brings books to mind, as well. I love to read but don’t typically recommend many novels on my blog, simply because I tend to stick to mysteries or easy, funny, light reads. I’m not looking for literary genius by any means. These are a few coffee table books I already own (and love) or ones I plan to add to my collection shortly. This time of year I tend to love cozy home decor ideas, home-cooked recipes and entertaining ideas for the upcoming holidays.
So, what does back to school mean to you? A wardrobe refresh? New throw pillows? I’d love to hear!

back to school to me is always time for a fresh start… after spending the summer with the kids and not having as much time to myself it’s a time for me to start focusing on my own business and personal goals more. and it’s time to get back to routine. 🙂 i love it! and my kids i think are tired of me by now anyhow, so no matter what they may say, they both love it, too!

Fantastic choices Sarah! It is definitely always hard to say goodbye to summer, but I can remember the “back to school” clothes shopping being a highlight of my year! And then wearing your best new outfit on the first day… even when it’s way too hot out still for fall clothing;)
