For my dining room I decided to make custom roman shades with fabric.
After spending most of last week in Las Vegas for work, I came home Friday afternoon ready to chill, so not much was completed on the home project front. However, I was able to play around with some gorgeous fabric options for the roman shades I want to make in the coastal inspired dining room. You can check out my original design plans for the dining room if you’re new around here and want to get up to speed on this project.
Fabric Roman Window Shades
The fabrics I played with were all ones that I had on hand {and that are also available in my fabric store}. The end goal is to find something that coordinates with everything harmoniously {including tying in the rug} but I also don’t want the window coverings to be the star of the space. I’m hoping the art and the chandelier {when I ever find enough money to order one} can really shine.
I can’t say that I’m 100% sold on any of these fabrics right now since so many elements are still missing from the space, but I think my favorites are the top two and the bottom right {although this option feels a bit too much like my office drapes which are in the Clove colorway}. As you can see, the pretty Seafoam colorway that I originally had in my design plans likely isn’t making the cut. I’m not in love with how it looks with the other elements in real life. I also may go back to the drawing board and find different fabrics online {maybe like a paisley with some blue and greens}, but right now, the plan is to use one of these. Which one is your favorite?

I really like the two on the bottom. I’m sure you’ll make the right choice and the room will turn out fabulous anyway !

I like the top right too – Java! Where do you find these cool looking fabrics online….besides your Fabric Store 🙂 ?
Sarah says
Haha! Honestly, all over the place. Any time I see a good deal, I buy it even if I don’t have a use for it. It’s a legitimate problem. I love to search on eBay, Etsy, online fabric stores and local fabric stores.

Yep. I like the one on the bottom right as well.

Xu Garden Java is my favorite, but it would be the star of the show and wouldn’t exactly blend in, would it?
Stacy says
Top right!!!

Love your blog! I really like the way you framed the painting! Do you have a tutorial on how to do that? What color paint did you use on the frame?
Sarah says
I actually purchased it with the frame. You can buy it with or without. Thanks!
