Today I’m participating in a Tour Through the Blog World. You’ve probably seen these posts lately, but essentially, a blogger nominates you,  you answer some questions and then you tag three more bloggers. Kinda like a pyramid scheme, but for bloggers 😉 This post is definitely a little more personal and wordy than the pretty images and inspiring projects you may be used to. So, today you get to see inside of the inner workings of my brain. It might be a little scary.
I was nominated by the fabulous Krista at The Happy Housie.
I had always admired Krista’s homes and projects from afar, and when I got the chance to meet her at Haven, I was even more impressed. She is beyond sweet, talented, funny, and giving and I couldn’t be more envious of the views from her gorgeous home in Canada. If you’re not familiar with her blog, you need to check her out! I’m not sure I’ve found someone that does neutrals with pops of bright colors better than she does!
And now back to the tour. Following are the questions I had to answer along with my responses.
What Am I Working On?
Perhaps a better question for me may be what am I not working on. Seriously. At any given point in time, I have too many projects to count that have yet to be completed. You can see my master bath progress {which is finally starting to get somewhere} here. I’m also working on our mudroom, landscaping, craft room and figuring out the best course of action in our guest bath and kitchen. There is literally always something {and by something I mean ten different projects} that I’m working on.
How Does My Work Differ From Others In My Genre?
This is a tough one to answer – especially since I feel so many in the blogging community gain so much inspiration from one another. And it’s hard to categorize the DIY blog world as a genre – especially because I feel like we are all so unique. However, I am the first to admit I know when DIY is a good idea {at least most of the time} and when it is a bad idea. I’ve finally reached a point where I know when it is just better to invest in a piece versus DIY’ing six unsuccessful projects to get something I was only partially happy with. Other things, like throw pillows, curtains, paint, etc. I feel like I’m now completely fearless and am willing to try new projects in those areas.
Why Do I Write/Create What I Do?
I initially started a blog in 2008 as a way for my out-of-state family to keep up with our shenanigans in Nebraska. It still serves that purpose, but has grown to something much bigger. I feel like a member of an amazing community and I really find enjoyment in sharing my day-to-day projects  – especially if I know I an help inspire others. Additionally, saying my day job is less than creative would be an understatement. Granted, it requires creativity in other forms, however, it’s not the same {have I ever mentioned my undergraduate degree is in mathematics with emphasis in statistics and I have a master’s in business administration}. Yeah. Nerdy desk job 😉 My blog lets me exercise my brain in totally different ways – and I couldn’t love it more! I try to find inspiration in everything, whether it be Pinterest, random fabrics, the latest J. Crew catalog, or other unique items I see on the street.
How Does My Writing / Creating Process Work?
To be honest, I don’t consider myself a writer. I know it’s  not my strength. Writing is just a means to an end to share my DIY projects and sometimes feels like a necessary evil 😉 I’m definitely the type that just wants to cut to the pretty pictures and be inspired by imagery. However, there are so many other blogs I truly “read” so I know how important it is to articulate clearly and let your personality shine through. I have tried to make a more conscious effort to not rush through the written portion of my posts as I know words are just as important as the images.
And now, I’ve nominated:
April from House by Hoff {home tour found here}
Jen from Migonis Home {home tour found here}
Rachel at Maison de Pax {home tour found here}
These talented ladies all had participated in the blogland tour this month, so be sure to stop by and check out more information on each of them. Thanks for stopping by! And if you haven’t checked out my designer fabric sale, it runs until Sunday at midnight, so don’t miss out!
If you would like to follow along on more of my home decor, DIY, lifestyle and other posts, I’d love to have you follow me on any of the following:

I love that you are a math/stats/business girl by day and amazingly talented decorator by night (and weekends lol)…. I think your background shines through in how neat/square/linear/symmetrical your designs can be (um, I don’t even think I am using those mathy words correctly) – with all your stunning paneling and perfect styling. Thanks for participating Sarah- you’re a good sport!!
