Our Labor Day weekend was filled with fun and a lot of labor-intensive work! We had a four-day weekend, and as I mentioned, my husband agreed to help me work on the office on Friday. We were able to crank out all the wood work on Friday. I then caulked and puttied on Saturday and Sunday {with the first coat of paint on Sunday} and finished all the painting by Monday morning. As you can see, we opted for the board and batten in the grid design again {see the guest bedroom version here}, but this time went dark – Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze {I had seen enough of the color online in projects that I purchased it without even trying a sample}.
I am in LOVE with how the wall turned out. It definitely adds a more custom feel to the room and brings the perfect amount of drama to this space – since it is the first room you see when you come in our home. I also brought down the fabric I had purchased months ago {Windsor Smith Riad in Clove} from my design board I had previously made. The fabric is perfection in this room now.
I think I’ll save the full room reveal until I have a chandelier {thankfully this room was pre-wired for a light in the middle – it currently just has a cap cover on it now} and once I get a few throw pillows and curtains made. Â We also changed the layout – moving to the two chairs in front of the window and moved my desk closer to the courtyard wall.
Here is a little preview of how the new room will look. You can see I clipped the fabric up to see how it would look, but the drapes are by no means ready. To see more about our desk makeover click here.
It’s hard to believe the room looked like this just three short days ago!
I’m thinking the pillows from the design board will still look great – just waiting to {hopefully} find the fabric on the cheap.
I am very excited about not only how quickly this room transformed, but about the transformation itself. I love how the new look and can’t wait to wrap this project up soon!

While your wall is gorgeous-I’m a little smitten with the glass vessell on your desk–would you mind sharing where it’s from. It is just what I have been searching for!! Thank you
Sarah S says
Thanks Candie! I got the glass vase from either TJ Maxx or Marshalls several years ago. I bought a handful of them in various sizes and I still love them all. I’ve been on the lookout for more and have yet to find any.

Totally loved everything!! can you give me more details of the boards ( width and type) please! TIA
JENNY W says
I have a room I’d like to do this to but it has white crown. In your opinion do you think it would look ok. I could send a picture
Sarah says
I definitely think it could look good! The one thing you’ll want to keep in mind is the width of your crown where the boards would like up to it. If there is a significant different in size, you may want to go with a different type of wood than I used so that there isn’t a big lip between the boards and the crown, if that makes sense?
Lacy says
I adore the dark walls – what sheen did you use? I was thinking of going with flat, but yours looks like it has a little shine to it.
Sarah says
Thanks! I always use eggshell or satin finishes on interiors so that they are a bit easier to keep clean. I find the flat soaks up dirt and finger prints quite a bit more and there isn’t a way to clean it without repainting. Eggshell is definitely my favorite finish!
CLAUDIA CANTY says
I LOVE YOUR BOARD AND BATTEN WALL. WHAT IS THE COLOR OF THE REMAINING WALLS IN THE ROOM IF I MAY ASK?
Sarah says
Thank you so much! The other color is Behr Castle Path.
Emma says
I am doing the same kind of effect in my lounge incorporating my inset fire and tv that are on the wall. I am concerned of the finish though. A carpenter has said he is cutting squares out of sheets of MDf and then attaching them to the wall. I was going to paint them eggshell downpipe grey and the other walls will be white but worried it will be too dark. I also am worried that the wood panelling will be rough and tacky when painted and attract dust and fluff. Can you advice me I want it sheen but purchased eggeshell to be able to paint walls and wood.
Sarah says
I used an eggshell, as well, and it is working out really well for us. I’ve since painted over the original color (it’s now Benjamin Moore Hale Navy) with the side walls white and it isn’t too dark at all (and I’m one that definitely loves light. But, keep in mind we also have two walls of windows in the room. Here is the current look if you’re interested in seeing more: https://lifeonvirginiastreet.com/2017/08/office-reveal-hardwood-floors.
