Literally. It’s never a fun task, but I finally got around to organizing my closet after our move in December. That’s right, I really hadn’t touched it since the boxes were unpacked. Here’s what I was dealing with:
Some of you may remember that pre-move-in I had discussed the idea of creating a massive walk-in closet in the neighboring extra bedroom {that is now my craft room}. After moving in though, I quickly realized our current master closet was bigger than we anticipated and this one would work just fine, as long as we kept our clothes under control and purged some seasonally.
This weekend, I was sick of the disorder and cleaned it out {at least my side}. It always gets worse before it gets better – and this shot didn’t even include all the discarded shoe boxes! That large pile you see was all donated.
I had gotten extra lazy with my “scarf management” and employed a tactic I discussed in this post {which also works for men’s ties!} – using a hanger and shower curtain rings to keep all scarves on, and then hanging with your pants – it takes up SO little space!
I then sorted all my clothes by type, and then color-coordinated within, much like I did in this post. I had never done this process since we moved in and I found myself looking everywhere for certain tops. I had really gotten used to my prior organization!
Next up, I hope to incorporate some fun elements like these prints I won along with some painted elements {thinking the wall area up top and the shelving unit in a deep gray or color like our bedroom}. Then down the road I would like to add a fun light. But, for now, the much needed organization is a huge improvement!

One of the best thing I did when I cleaned up my closet was change the hangers. I got the huggable hangers from TARGET and I couldn’t be more happier – more space for my clothes and looks nice since everything looks the same. 🙂
