In addition to the minor update to the powder bath this past weekend, my husband and dad installed a necessary device to our front door.
Our front door is over eight feet tall and solid wood. Which is great, but the top has warped enough {due to the nature of wood in general} that the door would not fully close at the top. Something that was abundantly noticeable this winter during a windy snow storm where we found small snowflakes on the rug INSIDE of our front door.
Many of the alternatives to fix this were not at all appealing: new door, trying to “bend” it back to shape, or install an upper surface bolt. The prior homeowners, had previously installed a roller thing at the top {clearly I’m so well-versed in these items – but you can see what I’m talking about at the top of the first photo} but it just wasn’t enough. So, we went with a surface bolt.
My husband found this Deltana 18″ surface bolt in satin nickel and I could live with the looks of it. So we moved forward. I think the end result turned out great and is a much better alternative than buying a new front door! Plus it sounds like it was easy to install. Now we just have to ensure we don’t always set it or we won’t have a way to get inside through the front door.
