Due to our upcoming move, we only have two items out for decoration this year as mentioned here. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to look at our home during two past Christmas seasons: 2009 and 2011.
Christmas 2009 – This year I opted to decorate with more traditional Christmas colors and I used small ornaments throughout the house in glass jars, boats, etc.
Some of the fun ornaments I had purchased the year prior on clearance {mostly from Pottery Barn}
Christmas 2010 – This year we were out of town for all of the Christmas holiday and opted to only put up the tree. But I will be sharing a fun wrapping tutorial later this week from 2010.
Christmas 2011 – I kept it fairly simple this year and decorated with natural colors and metallics. I found some free pine downloads from the New York Public Library images and had them printed up at Costco for $1.49 each for the frames I already had hanging over our buffet. I thought these pine cone prints were fun for winter. They came out kind of blurry {online, Costco told me they might be blurry due to image quality but for $1.49 each I wasn’t too worried}. I thought they would be fun to switch out seasonally.
Because our television was moved over our mantle in 2011, I had to keep the decorations there very simple. I used a wooden “Merry Christmas” cut-out that looked great and added the right amount of sparkle to the area.
There is nothing I love more during the holidays than shutting off all the lights in our house and using only the light from the Christmas tree. Every photo I took last year made the bottom half of the tree twice as bright, which is odd because I had not noticed that in prior years {and it is a prelit tree}.

I love the ornaments in the large apothocary jars and have done one on our sunroom table for years. Christmas 2013 will be spectacular in your home – – you will be 100% settled next year, will have all your painting done and I’m sure you will find some fabulous decor to put up for Christmas.
